Jessica, on April 9, 2011 at 9:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24

So with my wedding being just under a month away, im trying to tie up loose ends and get all the little stuff I may have forgotten... What are in your opinion the top stuff people forget about...

I know I have totally over looked things like

1. card box

2. Unity candle

3. Guest book

Im sure there is more, but I cant think of any.. please help me and others out Smiley smile

I guess I should probably start thinking about all of this. But everytime I do I start stressing! We are trying to keep a very low budget. I'm sure there is so much I've overlooked.

Exactly what I was thinking, I have put so much into the "big" stuff, that it has made me completely over look the "little" stuff and I cant even think what I still need.

We had not planned on having a cake.. then last minute his mom offered to pay for one. So I just ordered the cake server set off ebay for only $11 that's including shipping I was happy because I didn't think we needed them. I didn't know what to do for a "guest book" with 8 attendants of close fam. Running out of time! Oh yeah I dont have a garter either.

    Cake topper, marriage license.

Go to the make-up isle (sorry couldn't resist) and look for the oil absorbing sheets, little blue thin box. They get the shine off your forehead and don't mess with you makeup.

Have a cute little purse. Put the oil absorbing sheets, small mirror, tampon, mascara, lipstick, your camera in it, and get some of those new whisps. Make sure it is always near you (MOH holding) or at the head table. Then you have it when you need to go to the bathroom and freshen up and when you have your first dance and Father daughter dance - ask MOH to use your camera to take pictures.

Your dress has been hanging in a nice bag for months now. The day of, you get dressed at the house, take some pictures and jump in the vehicle to go get married...guess what is at the house... the bag! Make sure you put the bag in with your overnight bag after you get dressed... and a giant garbage bag if you have a poofy slip. You will need some way to get your dress home.

I forgot a lot of stuff. The guestbook, the petals for the aisle - a lighter for the votives. hmmm... I'm sure there's more. The day of, though, I could care less. At that point there's not much you can do.

Also I would recommend starting a list. I had a google doc checklist for the month prior and anytime while I was at work or at home and I would think of something to get/pack, etc I would write it down. It helped A LOT.

Make sure you have a day of emergency kit! I used mine soooo much. Include things like shout wipes (my FG decided to smash a brownie into her dress 20 min before the ceremony and these things saved the day!), safety pins, bobby pins, tums, pain killer, lotion, band-aids....etc.

Break in your shoes! Only myself and my MOH spent the time breaking in our shoes and all the other girls were dying!

Make a day of schedule and a contact list, have multiple copies on day of for anyone who could possibly need it.

That's all I can think of right now...

Make a list of everything that needs to be brought to the venue and taken home at the end of the night and then start assigning things to people (and let them know)

Ex. if you want to make by day. Packing lists are great, you mind will be mush that day. Honeymoon bag if leaving right away.

Wed: Have guys get tuxes. Thurs: Pack bag for Sat night. (You'll thank me) Drop off at hall - centerpieces, cake topper, flutes, cake knifes, seating chart/cards, etc. Fri: Mani/Pedi with girls, massage for the bride. Bring ribbon bouquet, music selection (ipod) marriage license to rehearsal. Bring Wedding party/parent gifts to rehearsal dinner. Sat: button down shirt, veil or hair pins/combs. Programs, guest book, bubbles, flower girl basket, RB pillow, etc. bridal emergency kit. Don't forget to pack a bag to put your dress in Sunday morning.

You also want to think of how you will get a car to the hotel if you are taking a limo from your home to the wedding. The men may need to play musical cars while you are getting your hair done. Also, designate who will need to bring the items to the church or hall if you will be in a limo.

Make sure you have a responsible designee to take all personal items home! My MOH was supposed to but left. We were getting in limo when the woman come out and said you must take this stuff now. fortunately another Bm and her hubby with a jeep came to my rescue!

Also, make sure if you are using candles that they are scentless. You don't want it competing with your food, or make anyone sick with the smell.

    MARRIAGE LICENSE!!

Static guard spray. At my brother's wedding, my dress was sticking to my thighs! Static spray saved my outfit.

I was part of a bridal party recently and with the excitement of our makeup and getting ready and not wanting to risk a bathroom call in the middle of the ceremony, we did not really drink much before and were all extremely thirsty by the end of the ceremony. I would recommend then that if your ceremony is at a different location from your reception to have a few small bottles of water on hand. It will really revive and freshen you all up you for the photo shoot. This may have to be kept in someone's car if there is no discrete handy location at the ceremony site but its something none of us thought of.

Other last minute-things that are easy to forget are written speeches/vows and a lint brush.

    Cheers
