Less than a week away, guests adding dates!? Last minute breakdown!

Anonymous, on October 29, 2012 at 3:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I am trying the mantra about how great it will be that I will married after it's all over but am also just so mad about the inconsiderate ways our friends have been behaving. 2 friends casually told us they were bringing dates this week! We have assigned tables, place cards are printed, seating chart at the caterers and even though it's buffet, we have a catering count. Someone please tell me how people still miss this HUGE piece of wedding etiquette? Did they think that magically there would be chairs for these dates? What are they thinking, honestly I'd like to know.

Obviously telling them no is a good option but then I still feel bad so it's just as much work. Also, anyone else out there a little annoyed that people think weddings just happen magically and are a little resentful about the fact that you worked your ass off to make this happen only to have people act like you didn't? Ugh. I'm sure it will work out but right now I just want it to be over.

I would tell them no. I've told plenty of folks no because they missed the deadline or because they took it upon themselves to invite others that I didn't invite! Oh well too bad so sad and you know what? I don't feel bad because you are right, weddings don't just "magically" happen!

You have every right to tell them no. Just tell them due to the lateness of the notice you are unable to accommodate additional guests. You want them to be there to enjoy your special day but the tables are all full.

I agree with both ladies. A week out and they tell you now? Tell them that the catering deadline has passed therefore you can't change your order and that unfortunately you have no room for any extra guests.

Make a table with PBJ sandwiches for the added guests with a note, because john doe added you a week out this is your seat and food, sorry I had to have my numbers in 3 weeks ago. enjoy! I bet they would never add a person again.

P.s. we did that with a few people it didn't kill our booze budget, that said we actually said to our friends that asked. is so and so a huge drinker? cause if not or if they are dd ing for you than then can come but if they're gonna drink our entire booze budget we'd rather just have our close friends so sorry.
