I know how devasting it is to be laid off... I was in Aug 09, but I applied to multiple staffing agencies and while it wasn't what I had been making it was more then Unemployment... A year later one of my Contract jobs turned permanent and I'm now in a better position then the job I lost and thought was perfect for me... there is always something on the horizon

I'm so sorry Shauna! I agree with Lauren, send out as many resumes out as you can, and try to customize them to each job. Look into craigslist, and non profit organizations too. And please don't loose hope. Hugs.

Oh, Shauna! This is awful - but you're strong and I'm sure you'll be OK.

Reach out to everyone you know and let them know you're looking for work. There's no shame in being laid off - we've all been there. Send out emails. Be very specific, "This is my occupation, these are my skills, my ideal job would be X." The most likely way to find a job isn't sending resumes into the online void, it's through a friend of a friend or other network.

For example, I was laid off in November 2008. My hours had been cut, so I knew the job loss was coming and started contacting everyone I could think of. A friend who worked at a staffing firm had a colleague who needed to place a temp for an admin position in my field. I wound up unemployed for a total of one day before starting my current (higher-paying) position. I know I got very lucky, but I also know tapping my network helped that luck along.

I'm pretty good at resume cleanup, so feel free to PM me if you need any help!

So sorry to hear about this Shauna! If I was in your situation, I would consider Brian's idea a lot. Yes, it's not the most conventional way of doing it, but it's a very viable option. What amtters now is for you to not make yourself crazy over stress, and apply for jobs like Lauren said. I hope it all works out well!

Can you ask your doctor to write a 3 months supply of medications, while your insurance is still active?

Don't give in yet, wait and see what your unemployment is actually going to be. I'll be honest right now and say I made about $850 on my paychecks and I get $640 for unemployment. That isn't a HUGE difference. I know a lot of people who say they wish they stayed on unemployment because they made more doing nothing than they are at their job. Maybe it won't end up so bad. I was also laid off and it is a horrible feeling, it does suck. But I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

Oh no, that's awful news! i didn't read all the other posts but I'm sure everything will be ok. with all the extensions and increases mr. obama has given to the unemployed, you might be surprised at the benefits you get. and i'm sure you'll find something else, your next job might even be better! i'd hire you to help me with wedding planning if i had any extra money Smiley smile i'll keep you in my prayers. (((hugs)))

Shauna, did I read that right? You have SLE? My mom has been coping for years, and they're pretty sure I have it as well. I've already been diagnosed with Raynaud's (sp) phenomenon and rheumatoid arthritis, so I know how you feel. If you ever need to talk, PM me Smiley smile

It is really scary, coming from experience.. you had at least something I never got.. a date.. My work still refuses to say when they're laying everyone off, but I know the admins would be the first to go, with no notice at all..

Either way, the WW ladies are gonna help you out and find you a new job before it negatively impacts you Smiley smile dont forget to pm me your email addy!

Oh dear. Why don't you just do a courthouse wedding for now? Love is not about the Princess Diana train. Ask your fiance.
