Last dance

Sara, on June 25, 2012 at 8:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

I know there has been recent conversation about song choice but should the last song be fast or slow? I can't decide what I want it to be. I'm meeting with the DJ tomorrow to finalize everything for the last time. What are you all doing? As a guest, which would you prefer for the last song? A slow love song or something that leaves you pumped up?

I really wanted something fun and upbeat to end the night. We are doing Calvin Harris's "I feel so close to you". I am obsessed with it and I begged FH to do it over "Closing Time" by Semisonic.

Thank you!! "Closing Time" was the song I've been trying to think of forever!! Thanks!!

What is the other "last dance" song where they say "You can't stay here"? I'm slightly confused about it too... and googling "Last Dance" songs hasn't helped.

    Sorry if it's so vague.

I think I'm leaning more towards an upbeat song. Not sure which one yet!

Meghan, I think Closing Time is the one where they say "You can't stay here"

    "Closing time

One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or beer

    Closing time

You don't have to go home but you can't stay here"

    There may be others though.

I haven't thought of what I would like to do, but I am leaning towards fast. I know as a guest I enjoy the faster songs at the end of the night because usually you've had a few drinks by then and really want to rip up the dance floor.

My BM says she'd prefer fast as well. As a guest I think I would as well.

I prefer fast songs to close it out. Me and my friends tradition is Don't Stop Believin'- Journey. We all LOVE this song (as many other people in the Bay Area do) and everyone leaves the party on a high note and feeling happy

I think it could be whatever you want it to be.....as a guests I don't want something that is going to pump me up because then I'm going to wish this reception lasted longer...I'm doing a smooth rnb song rkellys step in the name of love....it's real nice and my cam loves it I think it's great for ending the night

We are thinking our last song will be "we are young" by Fun. I know it's just super popular now, and in 5 years we will wonder why we picked it, but i feel like it's a good sentiment to close out the night.

Our wedding is in Texas so we're going with a slow country song (which also happens to be our favorite song). We're heading over to a salsa club right after the reception for an after party, that's why we didn't feel the need for an upbeat song, also, I agree with Gina about getting pumped up with a fast paced song.

@ Shellie We were totally thinking about using that as our last song too. Lol....but I'm also worried we will be wondering why on earth we picked that!

Well for our "last song" we chose a very special song to us called "Why don't we just Dance by Josh Turner. Our song is very fun and very upbeat but we had more than one song. We had such difficulty choosing which we should do for our first dance and our last...

We used our "slow song" that we like, "Keeper of the stars" for our first dance and we used our other special song as our fast dance for our "Last dance"

Not sure if this makes sense...

But the DJ convinced me at the last minute to replay our first song again. He said he liked to close it out with that song, so we had our fun upbeat song thinking it was our last and then as everyone was leaving, we slow danced to our first dance song again before heading upstairs for the night.

We wanted to close on something fun and upbeat since the younger guests will possibly be going on to an after party so we are going to use "Glad You Came" by The Wanted.

Ooh that's a good idea Sara. I hadn't thought about using that song.

FH and I still haven't decided what's going to play last yet. But it's definitely going to be something upbeat
