Key Largo destination wedding - September 18, 2020?

Lynne, on May 12, 2020 at 6:16 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Hello everyone....
I’m hoping for some insight, I had planned a destination wedding in Key Largo for April 30th 2020 originally. Due to Covid, we were able to postpone until September 18th 2020. I am now becoming concerned and anxious about the rescheduled date. This is the second wedding for both of us and a beachside ceremony was something we both really wanted.

We live in New York and along with us about 90% of the guests will also be traveling from NY. We are a small group Of approximately 30 people. The ceremony and dinner party will be held at a resort in Key Largo.
Should I consider cancelling? Rescheduling everything again will be difficult and I am not sure I am up to the challenge this time.
Thanks in advance for any advice......

I think with 30 people you will most likely be able to have a FL wedding. I think the bigger question may be will your guests travel? We also are planning our second wedding, dreams of having it in the beach with 30 of our closest family and friends in St. Pete’s Beach but now we are worried that my mother and my fiancé’s best friend may not travel because of Covid-19. So I’m frantically seeing what we may be able to pull off locally (MA). If your guests will travel- I think you’ll probably be okay. Good luck to you whatever you decide. 😊

Sorry that this pandemic in having an unfortunate affect on your wedding. Just out of curiosity, were there specific details in your contract that indicated the specifics regarding additional cancellations? And if you were to reschedule, how far out would you reschedule again? To be honest, I would cancel. I would completely understand the frustration and would just much rather continue with a more personal ceremony at that point.

    Hi Lynne,

I'm truly sorry that you're going through this. Postponing your wedding is not an easy decision, and it's tougher when it's not your call. BUT Key Largo is such a beautiful place -- I'm sure it will be equally fun and relaxing when you're able to head down there.

WeddingWire has gathered some resources here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central. You'll find articles like:

    - What to Do If You Have to Cancel Your Destination Wedding

    - You’ve Decided to Postpone Your Wedding. Now What?

If the financial strain of this pandemic prevents some of your guests from attending, will you be OK with their absence? Will waiting until 2021 guarantee their presence? You can't control anyone's circumstances, of course, so maybe you could take an informal poll of the family and friends that you most want to see at your wedding. Their responses may help you decide your next step. In the end, you should make the decision that feels right for you. tNfzh5l2DqY174PTz2s3UDnoYIEE1TX4V67XINfc

For now, I would continue to plan as normal! September is so far away and things are changing daily. Keep open ways of communication with your vendors and you will be in a great place.

Good luck with your new date, whenever it may be!

    HI,

I think having a wedding of 30 here in FL will be fine come September. I live in South West Florida and things are starting to get lively again! I think the biggest question for your wedding is that since you all are coming from NY, will it be ok to travel from there to here. I know the Governor of FL issued a 14 day quarantine for anyone traveling from NY to FL. I would make sure to monitor the governors orders as those will change as we re-open to different phases!

I wish you the best and pray your beautiful beach wedding will be happening come Sept!
