Just Booked a violin duo to play at our ceremony--what are you doing?

Jessica, on January 26, 2011 at 1:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

We had the option of using the organist affiliated with the church and the price was $200. We personally feel that the church's organ sounds terrible. So we decided to look for a string quartet and realized it was a little out of our budget. We didn't want to pay more than $400. Then we found a string quartet that also split up into a solo, duo or trio as well. Both the solo and duo were in our price range. We were a little skeptical of how only two violins would sound playing the songs we wanted. but they sent us samples and they are amazing. We read more deeply into their website and found out that the violinists were highly trained, either having a bachelor's degree or master's degree in music. One or both, are music teachers. They travelled throughout europe playing with orchestras and even were/are member of our local Philharmonic Orchestras. We obviously booked on the spot, couldn't risk losing the date. So excited! Who are you having play at your ceremony?

Awesome! It's definitely a good feeling when you can find a quality ensemble like that!

My grandmother is playing at the ceremony (organ). Me and FH's college jazz band is the reception entertainment...all free!

You got a great price. we looked into a guitar and flute duo and that was going to cost $400 for 30 minutes (having a violin would have been an additional $200). In the end we decided on a CD of songs that has special meanings to each of us. Plus, we each get to walk down the isle to songs that we love that really couldn't be replicated with instruments.

We got a string quartet, which sounds a lot like your group, through Panache. They do all of the classics, but also things like Madonna and Duran Duran, so they are also playing our cocktail hour. I was just as excited as you when I found out that we could afford them and how extensive their library of selections is!

We are having a string quartet. They are highschool students from the performing arts highschool in Houston. You have to go through the school to get them. A couple of couples I know have used them and said they were great!! We are paying $350 for the first hour and then $150 per additional 30min, we will only need them for an hour though!!

We have a duo (acoustic guitar, and violin) for $500.00 for both ceremony (they play 30 min prior to ceremony as well) and cocktail hour. I'm very excited they are playing classical stuff for the wedding and then cocktail hour they are jazzing it up. They are playing the Godfather II theme song especially for the FH!

How exciting good for you guys! We are having a solo 12 string guitar player play prior to the ceremony, during the ceremony and cocktail hour. He also provides the sound system for the ceremony. I thiiink it'll end up being $600 but again it includes the outdoor sound system for the ceremony and 3 hours of playing so we feel like it's a pretty good deal and he's Ah-mazing. We have hired a DJ for the rest of the reception to get the party going!

    We're using:

    1) A Jazz Trio for the guest seating portion.

    2) A song via DJ for the processional - bridal party walk down the aisle.

    3) Jazz Trio w/ Vocalist for the recessional - exit Briday Party & guest portion

    4) Jazz Trio during cocktail hour

My first bridal show, my mom and I walked in and the sounds we heard were just amazing! I assumed it was just classical type music playing over the speakers for the event...but it was NagyDuo, a husband and wife fute & harp duo. We got to the end of the hall, where they were playing, and before I even had a chance to say anything- my mom already grabbed their card and info pamphlet. They were booked the next week! Smiley smile This is the one thing that I had to sell my FS on, but I think he will be happy we decided to go with them after the fact. Smiley smile

We can't afford any sort of soloist, ect. So we're going to be rocking the Ipod BUT there's a band called "The Vitamin String Quartet" (found them on Amazon.com) and they do awesome string versions of modern songs! So I bought and a bunch of their songs and we're going to play them during the ceremony with a close friend cueing up the right songs for when I walk, we leave, ect.

I am looking into a guitar soloist in the area. His price seems great at $150 for the ceremony.

Congrats on getting that one accomplished, and on budget.

We are using the talents of our children for our ceremony. My youngest daughter plays acoustic guitar. The FH's son plays acoustic/electric and is a vocalist. My youngest and FH's son are a duo. My eldest daughter is a vocalist.

For the FH's processional... My youngest is doing the acoustic instrumental of Heart's "Crazy on You."

For my processional....My eldest is singing, "At Last"

For a memorial.....The duo is doing Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here."
