Jack and Jill party!

So I am very disappointed in some threads on here. Jack and Jills are a pretty new concept so I think they are complex to plan but there’s a ton of negativity surrounding them. My bridal party is throwing us a Jack and Jill because I don’t want a stuffy shower and my
fiance wants nothing to do with a sleazy stag. With that being said does anyone have any POSITIVE input here. Send invites out to guests of the wedding with an online purchase then bridal party can sell tickets also? It will be built entirely like a stag with raffles and games, music, good and drinks but a midday Sunday picnic style. I spend more on a single bridal gift than a couples tickets would be. Probably double so no negative comments please. Thanks ahead of time!

You won't get support for self Catering here because it's so DANGEROUS. People have died from self catered potlucks and events. Seriously, you can verify that with a google search. When someone gets sick from the food sitting out too long or not being restored and replenished properly, you will end up being responsible for your guests medical bills. We are trying to save you a financial and legal headache.

We are supportive, but not when you're risking your guests safety.

Isn't it still a CG violation to tell us how to post??

The only good experience with a Jack and Jill I've had was declining attending. I've always been confused by panhandling for a totally optional event.

In my area this is not a new concept at all. Been too so many I can't even count. My FI and I really don't want one but we know it's an uphill battle and even if we say no, it's still going to happen.

Now with that said, I still find them off putting because I don't ever carry cash on me so to pay for things like the ticket at the door, the raffle tickets and more often than not, the drinks it's an inconvenience for me.

We've agreed that any money we do get, if we do in fact have one thrown for us, is either going to go towards the bar at the wedding or our honeymoon.

I'm also pretty sure you don't dictate how anyone can post. Registering is vastly different. Registries are suggestions. Jack and Jills are essentially "I can't afford to host one party so I'll host two!"

I’ve literally never heard of a Jack and Jill or a stag. I thought you meant a coed shower and was wondering why you thought WW was opposed to that. I don’t have anything to add except that whole thread is kind of blowing my mind right now.

I think bridal showers are tacky too, so I just didn’t have one. I didn’t replace it with something else. There will always be people (not just on this forum, but among your guest list, which is what matters) who will think this is tacky, especially if it’s not common where you’re from. You don’t have to care about that, but it’s true.

Use the money from this party to properly cater your wedding.

A few things: The line about "panhandling" cracks me up. Because that is what a Jack and Jill really is: pandhandling for your event.

OP - have a joint couple shower - no issues with that. But to sell tickets to your shower? That it the same as having people to your home and charging them at the door to enter.

I have never heard of a Jack and Jill - please tell me they are a fad.

And no, WW posters can't tell others how to post.

My mind is blown as well. I've literally never heard of this before, and I can't believe this is something people do and are okay with.

I can't imagine having the gall to ask people to fund my wedding that I'm choosing to have in the first place. It reminds me of a honeyfund- I'm choosing to have a vacation I can't afford and now I'm asking my family and friends to pay for it.

Good thing you can't tell people how to post. If you wanted an echo chamber of validation you came to the wrong place.

Who says the registries are a suggestion? Literally everyone. I didn't require anyone to give me anything to attend my wedding. If your wedding is paid for why in the world would you even entertain the idea of hosting an event like this? Why does anyone *have* to open their wallet to celebrate you?

I agree with PP. I'd cancel the party and actually hire a caterer. In my mind I value the health and welfare of my guests over saving a few dollars

Thank you! I would love for this to be removed so people can stop judging me and making me feel like an awful person! Which I’m the furthest thing from!

Registries are suggestions in the sense that “if you would like to give us a gift here are some things we could use/ really want”. Gifts are never a requirement, always a nicety. No one is saying there’s anything wrong with a stag party for ladies/bachelorette party. It’s the concept of you (or your bridal party in this case) is hosting a party and charging an entrance fee. When parties are thrown they should be thrown within the budget of the people hosting the party. The only thing I’ve ever had to pay for at a bachelorette is towards the cost of a party bus which was something confirmed with me before I agreed to go.

If the wedding is already paid for, why would you need a Jack and Jill? Isn't the point to help pay for the wedding? IMO, Jack and Jillls are tacky to begin BUT a Jack and Jill that isn't even paying for the wedding takes the cake.

My mother paid for the Hall considering it was a third of the price of having a traditional bridal shower. My fiancé owns a restaurant so the food is covered. So my bridal party is only responsible for alcohol and decorations. And I would never have done this if all of them didn’t want to. And considering it’s being built like a stag you normally offer back what the party put in to throw it.

I’m thinking jack and Jill shouldn’t be the name then. I liked the idea of having a lady stag. I didn’t want a stuffy shower. I don’t want gifts. Our family wouldn’t have been impressed if I didn’t have a shower so we agreed on this.
