Is wedding videography worth it?

Katie, on September 22, 2020 at 10:19 AM Posted in Planning 0 58
Hi everyone!! We’re debating on whether or not we should have a videographer for our wedding. Part of us feels we’d watch it once and never again.... but it may be nice for the moments we miss throughout the night. Thoughts?!?

I'm in the same boat. We originally did not hire a videographer, though since we postponed our wedding from 2020 to 2022, we're considering hiring one. We figured we have the time to save up the money, and it would be a "nice to have", but it isn't a "must have" for us, so we haven't fully decided yet. If it's in your budget, I say go for it! There may be many moments that the videographer captures that you didn't know happened at the time, and it may be a nice video to watch on your anniversary each year. Otherwise, if it's not in the budget, I wouldn't hire one.

We hired a videographer and we have no regrets. Do we watch it every day? Of course not. But it will be nice to look back on, on anniversaries and other special occasions. I also think it will be special to share with our children one day.

I hadn’t originally planned on hiring a videographer either. But so many ladies here on WW convinced me otherwise! You hear from everyone that the day goes by so quickly and it’s just a whirlwind, so it’s nice to have the video to relive the moment when things aren’t so crazy, and also to see all the little moments you missed. Plus, you only see things from your point of view. A video allows you to watch the ceremony from your guests’ point of view. And I know as the years go by, memories fade. If you only have pictures, those may eventually be the only moments you remember. If you have a video, you can keep so many more memories & relive them over the years! Plus, I think it will be nice to have video of older family members all dressed up and celebrating a happy time- once they pass, I think it would be nice to be able to watch actual video of them and hear their voices

I personally loved having video but I think if you have good photography then that’s sufficient if video isn’t in the budget

We decided to get one, mainly because I had FOMO and would rather have it than not. Even if it is something we watch once a year or something on our anniversary, at least we have it. I've also heard it is nice for seeing the dances and hearing the vows and watching the walk down the aisle portion. A lot of that stuff, you'll be so in the moment that you'll forget what happened, so it'll be nice to have it recorded.

I think that if you can have it, have it! It will be something beautiful that you guys can watch in the future, even after celebrating many years together. Idk about you, but my memory and my fiance's is not all that good. Having the video will probably remind or or show us something we may have missed on the wedding day. Also, with COVID-19, you can have a video and post it on social media for those unable to attend (just a thought).

Daughter had videographers and was SO glad she did. She also has amazing pictures, but obviously still photos and video capture different things. She received both a 6-7 minute highlight video -- which is a gorgeous, well-edited summary of the day AND six hours of unedited raw video. Honestly, the raw video is amazing because it captured both real-time video and audio. In the raw, you can hear all the conversations going on between the wedding party & B&G, you hear all the actual music during the processional, reception, you can hear the entire ceremony, the speeches, etc. Generally, because of copyright issues highlight videos do not include the commercial music, just whatever soundtrack is used in editing. Of course she doesn't watch 6 hours of raw video often, but after watching it once or twice she knows what's there, so if she wants to rewatch a particular event she knows roughly where to find it. The day of does go by so quickly, that there will be many details you'll miss or forget. Video helps you hold on to some of that.

We did not have a videographer and we have no regrets. Budget was not an issue and we easily could have had one if we had wanted, but we just didn't feel like it was necessary. That being said, a lot of my friends have had videographers and loved the videos. We personally didn't feel like we needed one, since we had an excellent photographer with a second shooter for 10 hours of coverage.

I dont plan on doing it. I actually dislike how the videos are made today as if its a trailer or movie. I like how wedding videos were filmed 25 + years ago. So much more authentic.
