Is my wedding going to be tacky?!

Rachel, on April 3, 2018 at 6:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 37
I've beem planning my wedding for a little over a year now. And I wanted to do something different. I'm my area it's usually barn weddings and rustic themes so I planned a vibrant peacock themed wedding. My FH is color blind so we picked very vibrant colors he'd be allure to see a little better. My colors are royal blue, emerald green and bright purple. I'm a pretty vibrant person myself so the bright colors go with my personality lol. I have about 300 peacock feathers to use for decorations. I planned to use them in the centerpieces and add them on the backs of the chair sashes. I'm also having my flowers custom made with silk flowers in my colors with some feathers and my flower girls will have peacock feather hair clips. My BM will each wear a dress in a different color ( I only have three bm) and the groomsmen and my bridesman will all wear purple ties. All of my other decorations will be in my three colors but fairly simple because I don't want to go over the top. Oh and I'm using a birdcage for my card holder... you know cause peacock lol. But know I'm starting to second guess the whole thing. My weddings in 4 months and what I thought was going to be this uniquely beautiful wedding with a touch of elegance I'm afraid is turning into a big tacky circus!!

I would use all of the bright colors as accents only. Can you have the girls wear the same color?

Kinda but their bouquets were made to match their dresses 😕 and all of the colors are bright. So which one would I use as my primary color?

Maybe pick a neutral color so the feathers stand out but I wouldn’t do a ton of vibrant color

I think this sounds fun and beautiful! A couple of things I keep reminding myself: this wedding is about you and your FH, nobody else. People are coming because they love and support you. If they don't agree with something you do during your wedding, oh well, can't please them all and your main focus should be pleasing you and your FH. They will get over it if they really care about seeing you happy. All weddings blend together and this is a fun way to make yours unique so people remember it. If it makes you happy, it's not tacky.

Have a base color, a darker purple for example, and then use the peacock feathers etc as accents, don't over saturate with them.
Lean more towards jewel tones and it won't be tacky in any way, those colors and color combinations are very normal and widely used. It's just about how you put them together. Look on Pinterest etc for "jewel toned" think "peacock inspired" and not ONLY peacock Smiley smile

In fact, think middle eastern/Indian, both traditionally use very bright colors and jewel tones and they're very vibrant and beautiful- again, it just depends on how it is all put together Smiley smile

Thank you! I have to remind myself of this! Everything in our wedding my FH and I have picked together. The vibrant colors are so vibrant because he can see them best. I can't really take that away from him. We wanted it to be fun and something people remembered but also something he could see lol he can't tell colors apart if they're to similar so we went bright! 😃

Another note: you could even use white or ivory as a bae, or silver or gold and then use the bright colors as accents...some quick photos I found.

Side note: my colors are very similar as I am half Arab and my wedding is Arabian/Princess Jasmines Garden themed Smiley smile so I have purple/silver/white/turquoise/blue as my own colors

I think it sounds great! Just don't go overboard on the details (like favors and cake stands and signage.) You know when a rustic wedding has too much burlap? Yeah, don't do that with peacock.

You. Do. You. My wedding colors are neon green and red. People probably think we're tacky. But they are our team colors. We've even designed jerseys in these colors. I think it sounds gorgeous. As someone that adores bright colors and vibrant things, I would love to see all of this. I get soooooo tired of seeing the same drab things at every single rustic wedding. Everyone will have an opinion on what you "should" do when the only opinion that truly matters is yours and FH.

Only accent the bright colors. Can the girls wear black or a muted color? Emerald would be pretty too. I wouldn't mix all three bight colors in the outfits, that seems a bit chaotic. The feathers will be great accents on the centerpieces. Skip the chair sashes. The really bright silk flowers might be distracting too, but if the BM's wear something more simple the flowers could look beautiful! I don't think your theme is bad at all, I just think it can EASILY be overdone if you use it too much.

I love color and love what you wrote about your wedding. I disagree with using white as a base and you colors as accents. I think it will come together nicely.

We're using white table clothes and chair covers plus I'm putting white lace as an overlay on my centerpieces to off set the colored ribbon and I'm using rhinestone jewels on all of my centerpieces to hold the peacock feathers in place and give a little sparkle

I think your colors sound amazing! I love vibrant colors too! I was having the same thought with the rustic weddings! Lol it's so hard to find anything for a wedding that's not rustic so all of my decorations I'm making myself.... I'm not very crafty so it may end up looking like a kindergarten art project 😂

See , you know what you're doing! Its going ti be beautiful!!

My tablecloths and napkins will all be white as well (mostly because I refused to pay stupid amounts extra for colored ones, lol) but in your case with him being color blind, will the white base make the other colors pop even more for him? If so, total bonus! I love that you're taking him into consideration with all of this Smiley smile

Thank you! Yes lol the white will make the colors stand out more so he'll be able to see them better. We're not having the tables all different colors. So like one will be all purple one will be all green and one all blue and they'll alternate. I forgot that I also have table runners in my three colors lol. I wanted to kinda use all three colors in all of the tables but it would get a little difficult for him to see as colors can look the same if to close to each other so this was our best solution. So each table will have a white table cloth,a colored runner, a centerpiece with matching ribbon around it, the chairs will have white chair covers with matching chair sashes and of course there will be peacock feathers. I'm also putting white lace around each chair sash and around each centerpiece lol.... man this was long 🙄

How to have a wedding that isn’t tacky:
    - Serve your guests a catered meal. Include a cocktail hour with substantial bites (more than like, nuts, for example).
    - Have an open bar of at least beer and wine.
    - Have some climate control - tent, indoors, etc.
    - Have enough restrooms (not porta potties) for every guest.

have all that? You’re fine. Don’t worry about the decor - that doesn’t affect guest experience.
