It's like 85% of the dresses in the boutiques look like that lol

It's getting to look like there's a bride uniform instead of it being that special dress

or maybe it's just the bride look for the millenium...I dunno...Maybe I'm just having dress overload lolol

I think it all boils down to tradition. Some brides want to be traditional in that aspect & they choose a traditional style of dress. I am guilty! haha

But I love seeing the dresses of the ladies who went out on a limb & did something completely different! Hey, sounds like a good idea for a thread!

That's why I wanted something different... If I had my way fully I would wear something like Gwen Stefani with the pink, but FH put his foot down and wanted white (I could have had a coloured belt or detailing, but I find even that all looks the same). So my dress is tea length! Totally original? Not at all. Will it stand out from most wedding dresses these days? Yes! I just hope FH, who seems to be a stuck in the mud, likes it

I thought the same thing when I was dress shopping. The problem is, I hate pickups, DH really didn;t want me in a strapless (he hates the look of strapless), and I was having an outdoor wedding so I wanted a small train if any, and light, flowy feel.

I was very fortunate and found the perfect dress on my first try! I bought it on the spot. My dress was very different, when it comes to wedding gowns, but it was completely me.

I feel the same way, I didn't want to go too far out of the box as I wanted a classic look, but a lot of them do end up looking very similar to the next one.

I definitely wanted straps and something "different." I felt like I was in too much of a costume in a big wedding dress and I wanted something that felt more me.

This is my dress (on the model, not on me), I think it suits me and I think it's different. It's hard to tell from this photo, but the straps have pearls all along them and along the neckline.

Girl do not stress in our christian culture we do not wear strapless dresses in the church. This gives us the opportunity to buy a dress and customise it for our special day. Normally we could get detachable shoulders, or bridal jacket, bridal top that can make a simple dress couture with only 300 extra dollars. The more so you can always detach things to get a second look for the reception

I found a dress and made it different. My grandma and I spend hours gluing navy blue beads onto my dress. Now it has my personal touch! Smiley smile

Yeah, I'm really not into wearing shawls or those jackets over my wedding dress. I know you can customize a dress but I just want to see more variety out there in all price ranges

I guess it also could be what area of the country you are in. I went to DBs and tried on 4 totally different looking dresses - one satin mermaid, one ruffled ballgown without a train, one halter style that was so poufy in the skirt that it looked like a long tutu and the one I finally chose.

I think part of that "standard look" comes from a general style that has a better chance of looking good on more body types than other more risque dresses. And the other factor I have to blame is DB. I don't understand why so many brides feel that is where they have to get their dress from. I wasn't impressed with the dresses and at there higher end at about 1000 you have so many more options at other bridal salons.

I agree they all were starting to look the same. My consultant even said that it was more the accessories that made it one of a kind. I went with a dress with some color. It too is similar to a lot of styles. I think I got it more because the consultant said they hadn't sold that dress style in my town yet at all. At least I had that.

@ Rebecca, in some town DB's is the only bridal shop option (there are lots of quinceanera shops but while I looked, ruled any dresses from there out right away), and I was grateful to have that as they used to be over an hour away. I have to travel 6 hours to Dallas to have a chance to look at more. I didn't want to drive all that way for a dress. It was get it at DB or make it myself. I took the easy way out.

@ Cynthia - I understand some people really do have limited options, and it depends on the priority each bride puts on the dress. I'm always just a little disappointed when someone does have options and only goes to DB. Here's the dress I went for.... It's got some of the typical wedding dress elements such as the sweetheart neckline, and the bustle will be a series of pickups, but I love it!

Beautiful. Trust me if I had more options I would have gone to more places (I love the Pnina Tornai, and Chantal Mallett, though she is in London. One of the few times I regretted moving from the big city years ago. But if I didn't I wouldn't have met FH. So, man of my dreams or dress of my dreams.... I think I am ending up with the better choice. If I had an unlimited budget I would have loved to get one of these dresses by Chantal Mallett

For $300 I might still order this headpiece from her though.

I read that the styles were starting to change and brides were wanting sleeves. Vera Wang said something along the lines of "I want to do sleeves it's something new" I couldn't help but think "then do it already, I would love to see an option that doesn't involve sleeves... or didn't include an open back. And I for one cannot stand pick ups. But that's just me.

I love that headpiece! It would work great for an outdoor wedding. I liked pickups at first, but then I saw them in a wedding and thought it looked kinda cheap in real life, at least on the bridal party I saw.

^^^Like^^^ almost all of the dresses in the store look alike with a rhinestone here instead of there. Oh boy that special rhinestone will make the dress go up $300.
