Is fake flowers that tacky?

My future mother in-law is amazing with fake flowers and doing things with them. Its just too expensive for real flowers. Has anyone else done or doing this also?

I think it depends on what kind you get - but you can weed out the badly constructed/stringly ones when you're buying.

I wanted to use fake flowers because my cousin was supposed to make bouquets for me. I, personally, can't do floral arrangements - they always look horrible.

Absolutely not! There are some exceptionally good quality (and still affordable) fake flowers out there. The only time that I have an issue with them as the photographer is for tight close-up shots. When I have a macro or zoomed in shot, then it is obvious due to the fabric. But for wide-out shots, not a problem!

A great alternative option is to get the fake flowers for "everything else" and invest in a great bouquet for you. After all, they should be beautiful next to the beautiful bride!

Hubby and I are going with fake flowers as well but it's only because I'm allergic to almost everything...

@Rhaiza OMG love the centerpiece! I saw a few similar online and I keep coming back to it. I'm making my own centerpieces with some sand, seashells, and two or three flowers tops!

I used to think that fake flowers were tacky, but then I went to a friends wedding and didn't even realize until after the reception while driving with a bridesmaid that they had fake flowers! No one can notice whether or not the bridesmaids, brides, and grooms' flowers are fake or real, as long as they are done well.

And they will last (kind of) forever. My mom is excited about the site I showed her for silk flowers, and she gushes over how she wishes she still had her bouquet somewhere. I think all they have left if a dried flower from my dad's boutinner (SP?)..

Go with what YOU want Smiley smile

JMO: I think that in a lot of cases fake can look somewhat tacky...But depends on where you purchase the flowers. Hobby Lobby has some flowers that are more realistic, but walmart, not so much. I didn't want to spend a lot on flowers, so we ordered from Sams. They have wonderful prices.

There are so many things that you can do instead of using flowers now. Our centerpieces have NO flowers. People now a days brides are letting their girls carry things such as feathers, fans and other creative things.

I worked with nothing but fake flowers. my girls pomanders, my bouquet, the guys boutineers and my table centerpieces were all fake. Everything came out beautiful and it is all about what you want to go for.

We're using real flowers but getting them wholesale and DIY it to save money. It'll be alot of work the day before and the day of, but I'll have help to pull it off. That's just a personal preference though. I think that there are alot of great silk flowers out there, just have to stay away from the cheaper ones if you can afford it. The best part is you can resell them and recoup some money. Not so much with the real ones Smiley sad

I did real flowers, but see no reason not to use faux ones. i have seen some listings for very nice silk floral arrangements on craigslist from others weddings.... it might be worth a look.

I couldnt bring myself to use fake flowers... i think a lot of people can make them look really great and more power to them, but im not all that crafty and couldnt do it myself. i dont see a problem with fake flowers at all. whatever you like. I personally don't like fake flowers and wouldn't use them, but ive been to a lot of weddings using fake flowers and they were gorgeous. you really couldnt tell until you got up close. and even then, who cares?
