Is fake flowers that tacky?

Private User, on July 21, 2010 at 10:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

My future mother in-law is amazing with fake flowers and doing things with them. Its just too expensive for real flowers. Has anyone else done or doing this also?

Some "permanent" flowers are not made well, so just get the ones that are!

Umm for my centerpieces I'm using fake flowers, the only natural flowers are going to be my and the bridesmaids bouquets because we couldnt afford it, so as long as the person making them knows how to work with fake flowers I would do it. Heres my center piece and everyone that has seen it doesnt even know the flower is fake unless I tell them lol

Fake flowers done well is not tacky at all! There are some flowers that fake ones just look horrible and very fake. But there are some fake flowers that look great!

I used fake flowers at my first wedding and kept some of them to repurpose for stuff throughout my house at the time. As long as you do it with tact (which I think you will)- it's fine.

I'm forgoing the floral center pieces we're doing candles and gems, but the bouquets and bout. will be with real flowers only because when I started planning my FS said "fake flowers are insincere" and that to me was his input so I gave him the real flowers. Now personally I think think if they are done nicely then go with the fake.

My venue uses fake floral for their centerpieces that you can choose from. I chose the calla lillies here is a pic. To the right in that pic is the centerpiece with artificial flowers. So I have decided to do artificial flowers for the bouquets as well for 8 bouquets is 200 bucks real would of pushed a thousand or more.

From what I have seen at Michael's, silk flowers are expensive! You may be able to find types of real flowers that are even less than the silk flowers. I would look around at flower prices first. I love to throw parties and I always make up centerpieces for the tables when my family hosts thanksgiving, bridal showers, birthdays etc. and I get tons of flowers from Albertsons and Costco and you can find them pretty cheap and make up your own centerpieces. Look around, cuz real flowers are soo pretty and they smell so nice. They don't have to cost a lot!

Fake flowers are used in the most eleaborate and expensive restaurants, hotels, and wedding venues. These places change them by season and usually sell the pieces on ebay or raffle them off. Example The Venetian has a huge walk in centerpiece and every last piece is artificial.

To cut decoration cost completely use things like candles and mirrors or even paper flowers you can make yourself. Try even decorating glass vases with twigs and lily grass tulle ribbon. This is where your creativity comes out.

If you need any more suggest I wouldb be happy to help. Just contact me via weddingwire or direct email ********@*****.***.

There is no charge for ideas or questions from me.

    Good luck and congradulations.

The only real flowers I may have will be on the memorial table if we decide to have one. Rest will be "fake" it only makes since to me especially when I plan to use these decorations over and over again. My wedding is a goth/halloween theme. I love to decorate for halloween so my wedding decorations serve to purposes for me.

My centerpieces were very similar to Rhaiza except we used yellow orchids and had floating candles on top. My guests thought they were real. Even the ones with critical eyes.

As with anything, you can buy cheap or you can buy quality. So it's just a matter of coming up with a centerpiece that you can work within your budget. Don't break the bank trying to impress people. Sure you want your wedding to be nice as we all do. But it's not the end of the world to use artificial flowers.

I'm sure there will be people out there who think it's tacky, but I think you should go with what you want and can afford! If anyone says anything to you about fake flowers, just tell them you were not aware of their obvious offer to pay for real ones! Oh pooey... Smiley winking
