Is a wedding veil necessary?

Melissa, on April 2, 2010 at 5:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 26

The day I bought my dress, the woman at David's Bridal also had me try on wedding veils and jewelry. I didn't love any of the veils but the one I liked best was $200! I decided then that I wouldn't have a veil. Is that weird? Now I feel like I might look to bare or something. Thoughts?

That's not weird at all! I'm not going to have a veil either. I can't imagine spending that much on a little item.

It seems awfully ridiculous to spend that much on what appears to be a couple layers of tulle, lol.

Im not planning on buying one. are you doing a headpiece at all, like a crown or tiara? I was thinking of attaching a small piece of touling(sp?) to a tiara to make a mini veil.

Having a veil is not required. You can choose whether or not to have a veil. If you saw a veil you liked and the money was a factor, see if you can DIY it! They sell netting like the veils at David's are made of for cheap cheap at Michael's and other craft stores. After looking at your profile (I was looking for a pic of your dress) but your hair is GORGEOUS! I don't know what you're plan was for your hair, but, if I were you, I wouldn't want to cover it up!! Smiley smile If you're afraid of looking "bare", there are plenty of alternatives to the long, flowing veil such as a tiara or even a birdcage veil or a pretty clip or ribbons in your hair.

It's not weird at all! i'm not wearing a veil, i'm wearing a flower in my hair instead. i just didn't see the veil on me, it just wasn't me. and the flower is a lot cheaper, so that's a plus!

I'm definitely not doing a veil--just some fancy pins in my hair.

I am doing a veil but I got a great price on it at David's Bridal. It was on sale and then I also got a discount for buying my dress there. If you want to do a veil but do not want to spend the money I would like on ebay or check out second hand bridal stores. You can really get some great steals on ebay for your wedding. I have saved hundreds so far!

I'm not doing a veil, my wedding is outside and I dont want to worry about the wind throwing it around everywhere.

I think I'm going through occanseydesigns to get one for less than $70. I found other retailers that do really simple ones for less.

As I plan on getting married in the Catholic church and want to wear a strapless gown, the veil is my compromise with the priest.

My dress came with a little shoulder wrap, which I won't be wearing, but it has some really pretty accents one the ends of it, I was thinking about trying to make it into a little veil. I mean if all else fails and I screw it up, I won't be wearing one. So no you're not weird. But if you DO want one and know someone crafty ask them to make you one.

I wasn't going to do a veil but I found this site that had them very cheap. I got a plan knee length veil for like 36$ after shipping. I love it and the quality is just as good as DB veils. http://www.elegantgowns.com/store/catalog/bridal-veils/standard-wedding-veils?zenid=2cb569d57242fdb231e46e5508ede53e

If you are thinking that you want one but the cost is convincing you otherwise, check etsy as well. There was a post the other day that had a tulle dress listed (for extremely reasonable price) and the seller seemed to have great tule ablities.

If you know someone who has been married recently and you like their veil you could use it as your something borrowed... that's what I did.

If it's the price that bothers you, you can get them at some online stores like angelasbridalboutique.com or elegantgowns.com for around 30-40 dollars. I got mine for $36 at elegantgowns.com. You don't have to get the expensive one at David's Bridal.

I won't know for sure exactly what I'm doing until I put my dress on and see what the final effect should be. I was thinking of a blusher with a flower on the side but over the last few nights I've pictured myself with a tiara................never liked those but for some reason it keeps showing up in my dreams when I see myself dressed for the ceremony.
