Is a Sunday evening wedding allowed?

Vanessa, on April 2, 2010 at 11:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I am thinking of having my wedding Sunday night of Columbus Day weekend. I am thinking some guests will have off on Monday. My concern is the majority of our wedding will be from out of town and some will have to take off Monday. I don't want to be rude.

I would have a Sunday afternoon wedding over a sunday evening wedding. But I doubt you would be able to have it at a church, since most have worship activities going on most of day on Sundays. Not sure if you were planning on getting married in a church, though.

Do a bit of a survey with a few guests and see what they come up with. If you are finding that it is too much of a concern for folks then you can adjust from there if you like.

Sunday weddings are becoming quite popular, even if they don't fall on a holiday weekend. Some venues even offer lower rates for Sunday weddings, so check on some of the deals you may get. Since you stated a majority of your guests will be out of town, consider a ceremony and reception in one location for convenience. Good Luck.

I'm having my wedding in a church the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. My officiant is FHs uncle and we cleared it with him. We know that the church services come first, and we can have our ceremony later in the day. It gives us more time to get ready before the ceremony. That day is better for us anyway because my family will be coming from out of state, so they can have an extra day to get back for work. And I don't have to worry about my littlest brother or my other brother's girlfriend having school the next day.

My wedding is a Sunday evening, falling before Memorial Day. So far, I haven't had any complaints about it. (My mom has complained, but she doesn't count because I think she's just looking for excuses.)

A holiday weekend like that should affect enough people that I really don't think you need to ask. It sounds like a great way to get lower rates while not forcing many people to take off time they weren't getting anyway. Would have been great for us if we didn't already have Memorial Day weekend plans--although probably NOT cheaper in Vegas, so check with your venue to make sure you'll actually save money going with a holiday Sunday like that. It might not be a great deal if a lot of people have the same idea.

I shot a recent wedding on a Sunday (2/14 4:30pm ceremony). Almost half the guests were from out of town, while the other half drove an hour or more to get to the wedding. There were over 100 people present, so I think you'll be fine. Some people might turn it into a 3 day weekend. Good Luck!

My wedding will be the Sunday of Columbus weekend. Most of my guests dont get Monday off so I opted for an earlier wedding. We are getting married at 11am and having a lunch reception. We are not getting married in a church and our officiant is an ordained minister. Our reception will be over at 5 so there will be plenty of time for people to drive home. The only people invited that have Monday off are my co-workers (we're postal). We do plan on continuing the festivities with an after party at our hotel.

Mine is the Sunday of Memorial weekend. I actually did it Sunday in hope that our guest list WOULD be smaller! It's not rude, it's your day, only ones that matter are you and yours. I honestly only cared about my parents, siblings, and grandparents being there anyways. As far as getting better deals...it's TRUE! I'm paying for our tables, chairs, and tents for the price of 1 day rentals , but getting them for 3. They are closed on Sunday so have to deliver Saturday morning and can't pick up until Monday evening. So I got a great deal.

I'm having a sunday wedding. 4pm ceremony @ church and then cocktails at 5pm reception to follow till 10pm. Monday is a Holiday and govt business and schools are closed. Most people are okay with it and family also. What is important is that your family member and people you care about will be there......

You can have your wedding on whatever day you like. My thing is if you tell people in advance about it and they really want to be there then they will come. I know that many venues may be less expensive on those days due to the fact that many people have special events going on mostly on saturday's. I think that it is great, If that what you want then go for it.

Yes, I totally would have done a small Sunday early evening wedding, if I could have gotten away with having a smaller sized wedding reception.

My wedding is on a random Sunday. We decided to have a 3:30 ceremony - so it's still for dinner but the evening will end around 10ish so people can still go to work the next day.

Many people don't get off on Columbus day.. so I would say go for it but be prepared for a smaller guest list because some people may have to work the next day

I would do an early afternoon wedding on Sunday if you choose to have it that day. Like the PP have said a lot of people still have to work Columbus day. Besides if the wedding is in the early afternoon you are normally ok with having smaller meal.

Our wedding ceremony is on a Sunday at noon. I think it's fine. we have a lot of out of town guest, so they will have enough time to make it back home.

We are shooting for one of the Sundays during Spring break of 2011. Hopefully people show up! LOL Ours will be in CA, although we're from TX. We'll have a couple of out of towners, but most will be from CA.

If you want to do it on a Sunday, go for it! We'll be saving about $50 PER GUEST by having it on Sunday Smiley smile So yeah, WE'RE GOING FOR IT! Smiley smile

Last year I booked a location and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April through September were completely booked! Most ceremonies began at 4:30 or later... So I would have to say, Sunday Evening Weddings are FINE

I'm planning on doing Sunday of Columbus Day weekend as well. We have a lot of out-of-town guests coming in, so we wanted to make the whole weekend part of the celebration. We're hoping to have the bachelor/ette parties on Friday night, then rehearsal dinner Saturday and the wedding on Sunday, starting around 2 or 3pm, cocktails 3-4, or 4-5 and dinner, dancing reception until around 9pm or so. I figured ending at 9pm, we still have an evening reception, but it's not so late that people can't drive home afterwards. I think the only thing you really need to consider is letting people know about the details far enough in advance that they can take the day off if they want.
