Is a cash bar okay for wedding?

So let me get this right. One of the etiquette guidelines was from a woman Emily Post who was an author famous for etiquette in the early 1900's. Have things not changed since then?

Etiquette on being rude and tacky hasn't changed, no.

IT IS TACKY TO HAVE YOUR GUESTS OPEN THEIR WALLETS AT YOUR RECEPTION.

    ETA: Clarification.

Okay, thanks for the honesty. I have never been to a wedding so I don't know the first thing about them. What about just serving a few different wines and a couple different brands of beer?

I'm sick of people coming on here and saying we are all rich. Most of us are not. I'm working two jobs while FH is putting himself through school for a new career and working at the same time. We are getting married in the winter, on a Friday. I bought my dress on sale. We are skipping menus, programs, videographer, floral centerpieces and right now we are not planning to go on a honeymoon because we can't afford it and also want to save for a home. We will have an open bar for our guests. Prioritize, cut your list and stop assuming everyone on this site is throwing a hugely expensive wedding.

I'm pretty sure basic manners are timeless, Ryan.

@Melissa It's perfectly okay to host just beer and wine with no hard liquor. You'll want to have at least one of each in a white and red wine as well as a few different types of beer (lager, IPA, light option, etc).

Melissa: wine and beer are totally fine! That's what we did. Its what we could afford, and was well received.

@bicyclebuiltfoetwo, first off my fiancé and I aren't cheap. It was a question. Isn't that why we are here? To ask questions and learn? Thanks for the smart ass comments ladies. For the ones who just answered my question, I appreciate it. Smiley smile
