Indian Fusion Wedding Help

Hannah, on November 30, 2021 at 2:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi all!

I just got engaged on Saturday (yay!) and want to start planning ASAP. My fiancé is Indian and I am not so we want to do a fusion wedding. Any advice on how to plan one? I have no idea where to begin. Thanks!!

I think your first step would be to sit down with your FH and discuss budget and what is important to each of you for the wedding. I picked a month and then looked at venues and once I found my venue picked a date in the month that I wanted that they had open. Biggest thing for my and my FH has been keeping open communication and working on stuff together. Just remember this is for both of you and at the end of the day as long as both of you are happy and get married everything else will work out.

I'd start with budget. Then guest list numbers/venue. After that, figure out what Indian elements you want to have and the budget for that. This may need to rely on good communication between you two but also with your families.

How fun! From what I've seen on tv, and I may be completely wrong in my assumptions here, your in for a wedding full of color. Congratulations on your engagement!

Hi Hannah! Congrats on your engagement!! The first few big things like everyone has mentioned is figuring out a rough budget and guest list, then locking down a venue!

I'd also spend some time talking about what you want your wedding to look like, and what cultural elements you want to include! There are some great planning tips in these articles you should check out:

    Hi Hannah,

I just came across your boards.

I don't know if your fiancé is Hindu, but if he is, here is a date to consider: Monday, November 28, 2022.

    Some links as to why:

Indian culture tends to fall under two broad categories: North and South Indian. How these weddings are observed will greatly affect what will happen during the ceremonies, the attire, and the food.

Since Indian weddings can last for days, and can be large, vibrant events with lots of family, friends, and potential language barriers, definitely consider hiring a wedding planner.

Don't be afraid to bargain. In Indian culture (and some other cultures across the globe) the seller will sometimes start at a price that is on the higher end, and then the buyer has to start on the lower end. As the bargaining continues, they try to find a happy medium. Take your trusted family/friends/future in-laws with you any time you may need to bargain.
