I'm a four eyes. Should I get contacts for my wedding day?

betty, on August 8, 2013 at 4:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 59

It just dawned on me today that I might not want to wear my glasses! I have worn glasses every day since 4th grade. I have never had contacts, except once about 7 years ago, I did a day trial, which didn't work out (I have astigmatism). They probably have a lot more astigmatism options today.

I asked my fiance what he thought about me getting contacts for the wedding and he said "It would be like marrying a stranger!" Well, maybe he could get used to it if I wore them for a while beforehand. Smiley smile

I feel I do look better without glasses. My lenses are quite thick and they actually appear to distort my eyes a little. Distortion and glare in pictures doesn't sound good. The only pics I have of myself that I like are the ones I took my glasses off for.

Has anyone else gotten, or plan to get, contacts just for your wedding?!

People might not recognize me, but I wouldn't mind looking a little different and more glam. Smiley smile Plus, if I'm going to pay for makeup, you can't hardly see it behind thick glasses.

sigh.... another expense i didn't budget for...

I am definitely getting contacts! I wore contacts for a couple years, but besides that I've worn glasses since 3rd grade. I don't know what it's like to have an astigmatism, but I do know it took me 2 days to actually put contacts in for the first time lol. It took a while to get used to it, but it was so worth it! I've been wearing glasses for 3 years now and I miss contacts so much.

Also my sister has an astigmatism and she recently got contacts. She said they are very comfortable, so it's very probable you'll find better options! Who knows, maybe you'll stick with it and enjoy contacts for years to come Smiley smile

I'm also going to get contact lenses although I do feel my glasses compliment my face more.

I actually have nice big eyes which you can't see because my glasses make my eyes look smaller, but I have a long face and the glasses just break the longness.

But still, contact lenses. I have astigmatism in my right and and the contact lenses are fine.

No offense, but I have NO clue how you can live without contacts hahah.

I started wearing my contacts since I was fourteen, some few years after I started wearing my glasses. I absolutely hated them. You can't see outside the frame, so it's like tunnel vision. They fog with condensation in temperature changes! They're constantly slipping or leaving marks on my nose. They gave me headaches all the time. I tried wearing my glasses for one day and I was like HELL NO not again haha. I have an astigmatism in my right eye as well and it's comfortable still.

I think if no one has ever seen you in contacts it would be a cute "reveal" and definitely shocking. A nice new change for your wedding day.

I also think it would be cute to reveal and change things up for your wedding day. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing glasses though, my FH actually prefers me with glasses (weirdo). On another note, I have an astigmatism as well, and have worn contacts.

Future Mrs. L, how do you do it. I wear contacts every now and again and I just want to rip my eyes out if they are in there for too long.

I didn't even know they bothered people! I have breathable ones and can leave them in while I sleep for up to two weeks. I never put eye drops in either. I feel like towards the end of the two weeks sometimes they start to bother me with light sensitivity and I rub them a lot. Then I change them. I would NEVER wear glasses again and would get lasik before I had to.

Contacts changed my life!! I say give it a shot. Advice- dont give up if you don't like them at first. I have been through four or five different brands and styles.

I'm wearing mine sporadically. I can go for 20-30 minutes at a time without getting headaches, so I'll keep them off for the ceremony and then put them on and off at the reception. My eye doctor said that my eyes aren't bad enough for contacts, so she wouldn't recommend me going through the hassle. I can see without them, but I get headaches. :-(

You still have some time, why don't you try the contacts now so you can get a feel for it again and then make a decision? I agree with the other ladies, I hated wearing my glasses so much and wore contacts all the time. I also had astigmatism. As a side note, I got laser eye surgery a few years ago and it's the best thing I've ever done!

I'll be wearing contacts, it's so much easier.

I would suggest you try them now so that you'll get familiar with them prior to the wedding and also people will get to see you without your glasses for the first and not have to wait until your wedding day.

I'm thinking about having that Lasik surgery as well but in the near future

My plan is to wear contact through the ceremony, pictures and some of the reception, but once my eyes start getting tired I plan on swapping them out for my glasses towards the end of the night.

I'm opting to keep my glasses.

I choose frames specifically because they're on all the time and want them to look stylish. I'll be due a new set before the wedding so am gonna switch back to my old frames (these are silver half frames, my former ones were the same teal we're using in the wedding).

Apparently with Lasik you need to be older than 30 and I hear that you must be finished with your family planning?

I would just because glasses in certain styles can go out of style. I think it's worth getting contacts for your big day!

I have glasses, but I wear my contacts all the time. However if you want contacts I would say you should try to get them now, that way you can see if you like them and are able to wear them.

Some people after wearing glasses for so long don't like wearing contacts. You can always take your glasses off in your pictures if you want some with out it.

Get the contact NOW! I would say as someone that wears both it takes practice with contacts till you are comfortable with them. You don't want to be dealing with that on your wedding day and them not fitting perfectly.

I have an astigmatism and they do make contacts for that now.

I have contacts and I have astigmatism in my right eye. They even MAKE contact lenses specifically for that now. (All I know is my RX is higher in that eye). I've worn glasses since I was two and contacts since I was 14. I (now) like pictures in both. FH actually really likes the glasses but I feel better without them, so definitely contacts for me!

Advice; check out the hydrating ones, I can't recall the brand. They feel a little thicker on your finger but when you put them in your eye it's miraculous. Smiley smile

I got contacts [& a new set of frames just in case] a couple months before the wedding! I've only been wearing glasses since I was like 17, but since I was around 18 or so I've been wearing them every single day! I suppose I looked a little different, but I didn't feel like glasses were "fancy" enough & felt way more confident that particular day in my contacts! I now where contacts about oncea week too ;]
