Ice Cream Sundae Bar ~ For black tie??

Julia, on August 1, 2012 at 2:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I really would love to have an ice cream sundae bar along with wedding cake for my guests. I am having a black tie wedding though so I am wondering if it is too informal of a dessert? Or would it be so yummy and fun that it wouldn't even be questioned?

I appreciate your opinions!

So i think it's a great idea. I think that it's not the normal but that is okay. You need something to kind of make the wedding/reception seem more "down to earth" for lack of a better phrase. I think presentation is going to be teh key. I am going to have cupcakes and i wondered if it was too casual for black tie as well; however i've decided that my disply should be dressed up and I am going to have very coulture style cupcakes. Presentation will be the key.

We were going to do this if we chose a spring date, I love the idea!

I love the idea of an ice cream sundae bar...but make sure that it has a way to stay cold. I was at a wedding one time where they had one and while the guests loved it, the people who were at the end of the line to get theirs- had something more like soup than ice cream

I think as Yoshino says, it would all be in the presentation.

It's never too formal for a sundae bar! Never!

I'm with Fawn. I can't think of an inappropriate time for ice cream. I would have no problems scooping ice cream out of a gallon jug and squirting Hershey's syrup and whipped cream from a can, all while dressed in a ballgown.

    Hahaha @Ryan S.!!

I agree with the other ladies here. I dont think an ice cream bar is too informal. I think it's a great idea! Presentation is key, but there is so many pretty and unique ways you can use to present your ice cream bar. Totally do able! Smiley smile

You think because someone is in a tux or fancy dress that means that they don't enjoy delicious frozen treats?? Bring on the ice cream!!! Smiley laugh

I really wanted an ice cream bar at ours, but it just didn't work out that way. I think it's an awesome idea and can be very elegant too!

If done right I think you could really have a nice setup. Have servers scooping and offering toppings. I am sure your caterer can handle this!

I think an ice cream bar sounds fun. As long as it's presented nicely, it can definitely work for a black tie wedding.

Okay, I can't get that hyperlink to work properly and it's doing a project wedding search for "ice". lol.

Just google "ice cream wedding" or "sundae bar wedding" and I'm sure you'll find some inspiration. Or cut/paste that link instead of following the hyperlink.

Have fun! I agree it's all in the presentation, like most things are. Smiley smile
