I went to a wedding today and the DJ sucked!!

Mrs. Turner2B, on June 13, 2010 at 12:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 38

He'd start playing something upbeat and once people were dancing..he'd switch it up and play something slow!! Totally ruining the vibe! And he didn't have a lot of music..kept playing Michael Jackson songs over and over and whatever we requested..he didn't have. Guests were not dancing and some started leaving as early as 7pm and the bride was upset. I tried to get some people on the dance floor bt it was hard with the lack of good music.

I hope all you brides chose DJs that came well recommended. I really feel that the DJ can either make or break a wedding.

@Malinda! LOL...I prolly could've except the problem was he didn't have enogh song and didn't have internet to get any! I thought all DJs nowadays come prepared with internet in case they don't have a certain song.

I was trying to explain the importance of a DJ to my brother... He's like 'Uh, I could push a button for free..." I was trying to tell him that's not all a DJ does blah blah blah. He didn't listen lol. But dang I didn't think DJs were so expensive! I mean, I know they're 'worth it' but I'm on a budget! I wish I had DJ friends =0(

And this is why I'm slightly terrified that I'm having a club DJ but I can't really afford anything more unless I get a boom box.

@Luta I am having a club DJ do my wedding too... just make sure to have a really in depth talk about what to play and what not to play. I am not scared at all I have been in the club plenty of times when he is spinning and he keeps the crowd moving all night.

@Mrs. Turner I feel really bad for the bride I know how a bad DJ can ruin a party.

@Luta...yes...I agree with MIA...make sre to have an in depth talk about what you expect from him. I felt so bad for the bride. Smiley sad I'm not sure if it was an Ipod wedding but it sucked and I think providing a music list is a must!! That way you'll at least know the DJ will have what you really want played.

The worst reception I attended, the DJ was from a club, and never performed at a wedding before. He had no clue what he was doing. Playing the wrong type of music at the wrong time, no formalities took place, no direction, he just didn't realize weddings are much different than clubs. Guests left right after dinner. Good club DJ though. That DJ was me 20 years ago. I look back now after 1,200 plus weddings with lots of training and education, I wish I could do that wedding over again. There was 300 guests. You wouldn't want a dentist performing heart surgery, don't have a club DJ do your wedding.

If you budget $15,000 for your wedding, at 5 hours for a ceremony & reception, that's $3,000 per hour. If your guests leave just one hour early because the entertainment was bad, you just lost $3,000.

Your reception is the entertainment part of your wedding where more money and time is spent. If you pay average price for your DJ, you get

an average reception. Quality costs more.

I went to a wedding yesterday and the dj made us all say our own vows, "we had to vow to have the most fun that was humanly possible...." it was terrible I would be so angry if my dj did that. he also did the whole are we having fun yet thing that they do a pep rallies in HS and you just cheer so that you can get them to shut up. My FS and I created our own vows at that moment "we will make sure to not have a dj like this under any circumstances...". By the way some people like this, totaly understand but I don't need to be told that I have to have a good time.
