I was just invited to a reception on Facebook...

AK <3 NS, on June 23, 2015 at 12:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I was just invited to a wedding reception on Facebook, it popped into my notifications just now as I was laying here in bed. They have been married for a few months, but now they are having their reception. It's this Saturday...as in 5 days from now....

The only information on there is:

"We are registered at.... (List the three stores)"

"If you can't make it, you can send a card to (address)"

"It's informal, you can wear jeans."

That's it. That is all she wrote on this invitation. Wow.

I'm not one who is super against a lot of things that are thought of as tacky on here, because many of those "tacky" things are just the way of life around here. This was too much, though. I'm not going, and I'm not sending them cash.

Holy smokes, that is tacky. I would have been OK with everything (including the jeans and the Facebook invite), but the register and cards-sending address, no, just no.

I wonder if anyone tried to stop them before they sent out those messages. There's probably an embarrassed MOB somewhere hanging her head in shame. Lol

No, the MOB would be all for it. The MOG would be mortified if she knew about it, but i don't think she does yet. Lol

Yikes. You really need to wonder about people who do shit like that...

If I were you, I wouldn't be content with simply not showing up. I'd need to stick it to them a little -- I mean, this is really outrageous! You should send one of those glitter bombs to the address they so graciously provided, you know, to keep the celebration going Smiley smile

Oh man. Sounds like they are feeling a little broke after the wedding and desperately grasping at anything they can get, lol

They are in Cedar Rapids, AthenaKay. They just added to the invite (below their gift registry/cash grab information) that there will be food, drinks, and music. Yipee! There are currently over 100 people invited. 4 are confirmed. I guess I'm not alone in my feelings.

Every time I think I've seen it all, I realize I haven't. That's like saying, "Hey, you doing anything this weekend? We are. We got married a few months back, and now you can put on your jeans, head over, and celebrate the wedding you weren't invited to. But before you do, be sure to check out our registry so you can buy us the right stuff -- the stuff we want. If you can't make it, send your cash contributions to _______".

There's a correct way to do this. It requires an event that is scheduled shortly after the DW/private ceremony -- not months after, a printed invitation announcing the wedding and formally inviting guests to a celebration of the marriage, an RSVP date, no mention of a registry or cash gifts, and the price of postage. I hope they end up with 5 toasters, two bottle openers, and $15.

Three things and two of them are talking about needing to give them gifts. Ouch. The third is about jeans? I hate people who wear jeans to weddings. So gross.

Agreed. I would not be attending, either. Beyond rude.

Wow, just wow. I agree with what @TheCenterpieceFlowers mentioned: there is a method to having the reception after the wedding, and this couple ain't doing it. 5 days notice *and* dictating gifts and attire is ridiculous!

If it were me, I would probably send an empty card and maybe show up in the most distressed pair of jeans I have (but I'm spiteful like that lol)
