i don't understand why people think planning a wedding is stressful.

After disagreeing with something I said in another thread, someone said, "There's enough stress in planning a wedding. Go ahead and add some more." I don't get it. First, I don't get why the differing opinion of a stranger on the internet would stress anyone out at all. More importantly, I don't...

After disagreeing with something I said in another thread, someone said, "There's enough stress in planning a wedding. Go ahead and add some more." I don't get it.

First, I don't get why the differing opinion of a stranger on the internet would stress anyone out at all. Smiley xd

More importantly, I don't understand why people think wedding planning is stressful.

My thought is...It's YOUR wedding. YOU control what it is and how you do things. Why would you purposely do it in a way that causes you a lot of stress?

Money stress? Scale down your wedding or select a date further out to save more money.

People stress? Don't invite them.

Time stress? Choose another date.

I guess I may be the minority. We scheduled our wedding 2 years out to ease the financial burden and give us adequate time to plan. We are only inviting our closest friends and family. We don't care at all about keeping up with the Jones'. We're only having aspects of the wedding and reception that are important to us. I don't understand where the stress comes in.

If you find wedding planning stressful, I'd like to know...why does it stress you out? Could you do anything to ease the stress?

Exactly! Accept the things you can accept and change the ones you can't. There are choices for everything. They may not be choices you necessarily like, but they are choices and that gives you power.

Agreed. We all have tricky relationships and situations. That's life. How you deal with those things determines stress level. I refuse to let things I can't control stress me out. Life's too short.

I see your point and I haven't had much stress unless I've allowed it (and quickly dissolved it). I do understand how people, all the moving parts, and the possibility of contracted vendors not showing can be stressful. For me, it was more annoyances that if you dwell on them become stressful. I just think it's a combo of different personality types and how they handle situations. I'm more the type to talk myself out if stressing despite an initial reaction, so I think I'll survive just fine. Others can't do that as easily and when everything is happening all at once - family drama, vendor issues, money mishaps, etc- it's understandable that people will become stressed. I'm also older and never had a dream wedding envisioned (or one at all since I really wanted to elope), so maybe it's a bit easier for me to let things roll. Weddings bring out the crazy in people - and I'm talking about the people invited - which can be stressful to the planner to discover their best friend or parent or closest relative are actually selfish or don't care. It can just be a lot of emotions and discovery for some that they're not used to. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Agreed. I am a teacher too. I teach/run a program for 4th through 8th grade students with emotional/behavioral challenges. I teach empathy. I'm not saying "How could anyone not get it?" I'm saying *I* don't get it.

I’m planning a small immediate family majority wedding. I’d say generally I’m rather carefree about and haven’t let details stress me out but it’s the bigger picture that you can’t control that has caused me stress here and there... like people, vendors, and other people’s opinion on how I’m planning and the budget. I’ve tried to take it all in stride without stressing but it’s an important day and when other people or situations beyond your control do something you may disagree with or causes unhappiness it does create a little stress. Stress is normal, but I won’t let it overtake the wedding planning or my life. Process it and move forward.

Agreed. Process and move on. That's what I am trying to get at. I'm not saying that there won't be issues. I'm trying to understand why people don't find a way to solve those issues and move on with life.

I think the way you worded this is rather rude, so be warned wedding wire might remove your thread. They've removed less problematic threads before.
That being said wedding planning doesn't exist in a vacuum. People have lives and factors outside what they post here that might be affecting them.
For example my grandmother died, my car is dying, the boiler cracked, my house needed about 50k in repairs after a storm, my mother might need spine surgery, I was I the hospital a year ago and almost died, I need a lot of doctor visits. On their own they all kind of suck, but all at once when trying to planning a wedding gets stressful. Maybe you have a less active or stressful life but many people aren't as lucky. Maybe you don't suffer from anxeity or chronic illness.
I'd suggest to you that you are lucky and count it as a blessing.

Planning my wedding was calm cool and collective. My fiancé and I had a great time planning it. Nothing held us down. We laughed most of the time. I’m not sure why people think it’s stressful it’s your wedding if you allow it to be stressful then that’s just you... go with the flow if something got messed up fix it not a big deal.

I was always went with the flow from the time we started in January 2019 to now. With only having 28 days to go
can’t wait for August 10th to get here yaya

Yes, this. Even as a very low key, low drama, organized person I’m 64 days out and feeling stress.

I'm less that a year from my wedding, and booking the bigger venues and vendors was easier. I mostly stress about time. My weekends are packed between planning a wedding and having a life. I haven't had any leisure time recently. And money is a stress too. Bills and rent and venue payments. I mean for the most part its stress free but sometimes I get overwhelmed. Yesterday was one of the first days I was super stressed.

I get being busy. We both work crazy jobs (even though I am only working part time during the summer. School years are crazy and we're gearing up for that already). We have three kids who are all into different things. Money is always tricky. We need to drop a few thousand (that we don't readily have available) to fix a sidewalk. We have a night away planned for next week just to relax and reconnect.

It’s not really anyone’s right to tell someone what should or shouldn’t stress them out. Everyone here is having a different wedding, has different life circumstances, and is a different person, etc etc. It’s great if wedding planning isn’t stressful for you, but it’s presumptuous to say you can’t fathom why it would be stressful for anyone. It’s helpful to suggest solutions to ease stress, but it’s wildly UNhelpful to shame people for feeling stress at all.

I think you're probably right and I think that's why I just don't get it. I agree with problems and issues being annoyances to solve and when they aren't solved, that is when it becomes stressful. I don't understand why people choose to let it become stressful. I always smile when I see the BAM threads where brides say, "All of these major things went wrong and we still had a fabulous day!" I love that mindset. The one girl's photographer was a no show. You better believe I'd be getting my money back...but what good would it do me to get all upset about it and stress on my wedding day. I loved her mindset on it.

I think everyone is different . Therefore everyone is not going to be the same when it comes to stressful things . I have a best friend that will stress over the SMALLEST of things but that’s my opinion that they are small . Everyone has their own level of stress and what things stress them out most . So it’s ok to disagree with this topic . The only things is acknowledging everyone has different situations .

Im with you on this! People on here stress over the small stuff waaay to much.

like this person is causing drama?? don't invite them

the color of napkins don't match the seat covers? OH NO how sad.

I think a lot of people forget the meaning that's its a wedding to celebrate the COUPLE. I never knew all these rules until i came on here. I've been shunned because im not having an open bar...and that me and my FH are having cake and serving our guests donuts. The horror!

People on here take things waaay to seriously. Wedding planning so far hasn't been to stressful for us.

This is a great idea. I think we need to do that too. We both work and he works in the city so the commute is killer and then all the traveling for vendors and stuff. At least I get to try dresses on tomorrow. That should be fun and hopefully not stressful 🤞🏻

I think it's all about mindset. Things cannot stress you unless you allow them to. It's the difference between problem focused and solution focused attitudes.
