How to Write Wedding Thank You Card?

Jessica, on May 26, 2021 at 11:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 4

Hello WeddingWire couples!! We are now officially newlyweds (woohoo!! 🎉) and are ready to start working on thank yous for our wedding gifts.

Do you know what to say in wedding thank you cards? We’re looking for examples of wedding thank you card wording and hoping you can help us out! Obviously we thank them for the gift, but I can do that in one sentence! What else are we supposed to write? And what if they gave us cash or a check??

Please share your tips on how to write wedding thank you cards and sample wording!! Thanks! đź’Ś

For those who were unable to attend but sent a gift I said "Thank you so much for the generous gift! Josh and I really appreciate your support and for thinking of us." [If they're a close friend/family member I also added "I wish circumstances were different so you could have attended."

For those who attended and gave a gift I said "Thank you so much for the generous gift! Josh and I really appreciate your support. We're so glad you were able to attend the wedding and celebrate with us!"

Short, simple, and to the point! And then for parents/bridal party members I added a little extra personal touch. But still used the same formula for all thank yous.

I would try to make them a little more personal than the advice above! I think it's always super important to thank them for the specific gift they gave (i.e, Kitchen Aid Mixer, utensil set etc.), or if they gave cash, thanking them for putting money towards something (i.e, date night, rennovations, house etc.) In the examples below I used Kitchen Aid mixer as a fill in.

    For example:

    Came/Gift -

    "Name(s),

Thank you so much for coming to support (Spouse name) and me on our big day! We couldn't imagine our wedding day without you. We love our new KitchenAid mixer, and cannot wait to use it to bake some cookies! Thank you!!!

    Did not come/Gift -

    " Name(s),

This year has been crazy!! While you couldn't celebrate with us in person, we hope to celebrate with you soon. Thank you so much for our new KitchenAid Mixer. we love it and cannot wait to use it! to bake some cookies! Hope you and your family are doing well."

    Money Gift-

    "Name(s),

Thank you so much for coming to support (spouse name) and me on our big day! We could not imagine our wedding day without you. We are so appreciative of your gift, and cannot wait to use it on our next special date night!

You can keep them short and sweet! Here’s what to say in wedding thank you cards:

    • - Thank them for the gift

    • - Say something about how you’ll use it or why you’re so excited to receive it

    • - Thank them for attending the wedding and if you can mention when you’ll see them next!

If they didn’t attend the wedding you can say something like “we missed you at the wedding but can’t wait to celebrate with you in the future”!
