How to make a light up wedding dress

Brandi, on December 17, 2011 at 7:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

Does anyone know how I can add lights to a wedding dress. I like how the dress lights up and would love to do it.

I don't think it's right having a wedding dress that lights up...a prom/homecoming dress maybe (because that's SUPPOSED to be fun) call me old fashioned but a wedding dress is supposed to be beautiful and sophisticated, not flashing with light and completely over the top...

I would be afraid people would want to decorate me. You can get battery operated christmas lights at hobby lobby and just switch them on when it's the right moment. They make them for wreaths and centerpieces and stuff. I think each string has 25 lights. You could wrap them in the lining of your dress and voila!!! :-)

Ladies - the question was Does anyone know how to add lights? I hope Brandi has just a tad bit of cattyness in her so when you ladies post your dress pics she tells you that your dress is gaudy or not beautiful enough. WTF!

Brandi, more power or batteries to you if this is something you want to do. LOL I have yet to go to a wedding where there was a choreographed dance yet alone a light up dress and would think it was AWESOME. I can't wait to see your pics and videos as I already know I'll be smiling. Don't let anyone here pee in your cornflakes Girlfriend.

    :-)

No Amy, it's not all about you sweetie- if you had read there were some other posters as well. Since everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions on a public forum I'm just hoping and praying that Brandi finds your dress Gaudy and expresses her opinion when and if you post it. Regardless of whether or not you asked for the opinion.

LOL Marie!! That really is one heck of a "double" post issue.

but yes, I agree. and I see far more people doing it than Amy here, so no worries it really isn't about you!

But yeah, look at those tutorials about DIYing shoes, I've done something like that but to a shirt for a carnival, same type of lights, and it still applies.

and I do not agree that if you post a video you are opening this up to discussion. Her post asks how to do this, and lists the video as a reference. That's what SHE likes, as she said, and she wants input on how to recreate it! Remember, vow of conduct, "KEEP THE FORUM POSITIVE"! "RESPECT FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS"! and best of all, "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, DON'T RESPOND TO IT"!

I'd start with the light up battery powered lights. I'd then talk to someone with a little knowledge of electronics and instead of using a lot of battery packs, put together a single battery pack and switch for all the lights.

Depending on how long you want them to light up, you may be able to do this pretty easily. For a single dance or two, the battery pack could be fairly small - but if you want to do it all night, that might not be the case.

As for 'how' to do it - it looked like they're putting the lights between the fabric and overlay or between the fabric and crinoline under the skirt.

The specifics might change depending on the specific effect you're wanting though.

I'll be honest though, if you're wanting to do this on a mermaid fit dress, it will be far more difficult - and could involve actually mounting the lights into the fabric of the dress.

I just want to do it for a dance. No my dress is not a mermaid. I do not want tons of battery packs. So I may have to do what you said and see if I can get someone to wire it all. Thanks
