How to address wedding envelopes? Printed, Handwritten, Labels???

beautyofdreams, on September 29, 2015 at 11:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 33

I know where I plan to get my save the dates and invitations but I have no idea how to put the names and addresses on the front. I'm looking for a budget friendly option that is still nice. My handwriting is not an option. lol. Will officedepot or officemax print each guest address and name on my envelopes? How do people do this? Do people use clear labels? Any suggestions will be helpful!

You can get addresses printed on envelopes (some save the date vendors even provide that service), but I am not sure how "budget friendly" that is.

We just used clear labels for our save the dates---- bought clear labels from walmart for like 9 dollars and printed at home.

I am really interested in the replies. But what I can tell you is that you can go to staples and buy the package of envelope labels I think the brand they sell is Avery. Then you can go to avery's website and customize your labels and print them at home.

Thanks ladies! It seems like the clear labels are the most practical and budget friendly but I'm curious if there are other options!

I tried calling office supply stores and they will not print addresses on separate invitations. We ended up printing directly on our envelopes with our home printer (pretty cheap model from target). I ended up getting white outer envelopes which I didn't plan on because I was worried about the ink smearing on my metallic gold (now inner) envelopes. They actually came out really nice and I'm glad I didn't use labels. Had to buy printer ink, but that was a pretty minimal investment compared to a pro calligrapher.

Like a few others, we plan on using clear labels right now. That way, I can pick a nicer looking font & it won't take long to do!

My FH and I ordered 5" by 7" invitations with matching envelopes. We used my printer at home to print all the addresses on them. We had all the addresses in Excel, then used Mail Merge in Word to put them on envelopes, saved them as PDFs, then printed them. It took about 10 tries to get it right, and honestly I was ready to smash my printer at one point, but it was a very affordable option =).

    I hand-wrote Smiley smile

If you give yourself plenty of time you can just do a few a night while you watch TV. Avery labels are a real headache so be prepared!

I hated the clear labels. They aren't clear and once a piece of it is on there, you can't take it off to straighten it. Plus I didn't want to do it all myself and DH can't put stickers on straight to save his life. I printed directly onto the envelopes and I LOVED it! Find pretty fonts online.

@Sara Thanks for letting me know the local office printing stores wiill not do it. Sounds like clear labels it is or either buying a cheap printer some and ink and printing them at home!

@beautyofdreams no prob! we had the printer already, but I think it's a good idea if you are also planning on printing your own menus, escort cards, ceremony programs, or anything else. I was able to do the envelopes in chunks over a week and it wasn't time consuming at all. If you decide to go that way and want to know about my process, send me a message!

I am definitely using labels! My hand writing is not that great to write out each invite.

ETA - using silver metallic labels, not clear ones

I hand wrote the "to" addresses, and used a label for the return address for my save the dates.

I wanted them to look a little more personal, but I think I'm going to do printed labels for the actual invites so they look a little more formal.

@Herecometheyorks where did you find silvery labels? And did the printing work on them okay?

I used white labels and some calligraphy font in word. I downloaded the template from avery's website. I've received alot of compliments on the invitation. No one seemed to notice the white address labels...plus the post office probably beat the hell out of the envelope anyway so "its what's inside that counts", lol.

I hand wrote ours in gold sharpie, but my handwriting is decent. I recommend using labels. Love HCTY's idea of using the silver metallic.

I ran my through the printer. Probably not the most liked idea, but it got the job done quickly and efficiently, and ensured no errors in addressing. I was happy with my end result.

I hand wrote my STDs with a calligraphy pen. It was beautiful and I received a ton of compliments however once I received my invitations in the mail, I tested the calligraphy marker on the envelope and it looked like CRAP. It made the marker look like it was running out of ink. I was so pissed. Instead of buying new envelopes or ebing a diva and complaining more, I just bought the clear avery labels. Hopefully it's not too bad to do them.

I plan on using clear labels. I thought about printing directly on the envelopes through my printer but I don't want to risk jammed envelopes.

Sounds like everyone does a mix of all three. I'm between labels and printing on the envelopes themselves. @sara did you have to print the envelopes one by one?
