How soon do you get your hair/makeup trial done?

Laura, on September 23, 2014 at 7:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I'm conflicted on just when to do it. I was going to get a trial a couple of weeks before, but I see so many people on here doing it much earlier.

Pros/Cons of doing it sooner rather than later? Is Mid-December too late?

I personally chose to do mine earlier because if for some odd reason you hate the person you chose, you need to have enough time to find a replacement. Almost all of the people I considered were already booking up 2015 like, 5 months ago. So I had to snag it! Plus my girl had a special so I picked her. We're doing my makeup trial in February of 2015, and I'm getting married in April.

My FH's cousin does hair for a living, so I may have her do my hair for the wedding. I plan on doing some trials with her anyway probably around the same time of the makeup trial if not sooner.

Soon is best so you can change your mind or stylist if needed, i would think.

my gf will do my makeup, probably practice when shes back in Vegas in November. she does weddings every weekend.

I had my trial September 15th and my wedding is November 15th... I think it is all personal preference. I decided to do mine earlier due to time restraints closer to the wedding. The only con I can see is doing it a few weeks before and being completely unsatisfied with your stylist and not being able to get an alternate appointment with another place.. Given your wedding date it is a busy time of year! Another pro to doing it earlier is if you wanted to experiment with a few different style options.. (a few bride friends have had multiple hair trials) you have ample time to do it!

I had my trial a over a year in advance because I knew the HMUA I wanted booked up very quickly. I had another trial with them about a month before the wedding when I knew what I wanted more specifically.

I did my MUA trials in July so I could have time to look around. My hair lady that has done my hair for ears will do my hair. My trial isn't going to be until closer to the wedding because I know I am going to use her and she wants my hair to grow more. I may do it soon though, because I have free time, and I decided to do a simple updo - nothing too complicated.

My first MUA trial was in December. I loved the look, but not the MUA. My second trial, with a different MUA, was three months before the wedding. I liked the look and her personality better.

Mine was 2 months out. It allowed me to see most closely what my hair would look like, or whether I should consider extensions or something else

@Melissa- No, I've thought about that too! Not sure if I should since my hair isn't the easiest to style, but I've known what I want since I got engaged, so I wouldn't do the trial to test out styles, more so that we can see how to accomplish the look.

Also, I am *highly* allergic to most make-ups, so I would like to find out BEFORE the wedding versus the wedding day if the MUA's makeup will give me a reaction.

I paired my trial with my bridal portraits, which was four weeks before. If you know what you want and have a quality artist, you won't need several trials. Could you pair it with your e-pics, bridals, showers, or bachelorette?

Mine is booked for 10/9; which is the day we take our engagement photos. We're set to marry in August 2015. With the exception of eyeliner and lip gloss, I don't wear make up at all. So really I'm going into this blind. If you wear make up and know what you want, waiting would be okay.

@Gamecox- that's a good idea, I didn't think about that. I'm still on the fence about doing bridals, and I'm not having a shower I don't think, but it would be nice if I could coordinate it with my bachelorette party and see how long it actually lasts after it's done.

I did my hair/makeup trial when I got my engagement pictures taken, which was at the beginning of September. My wedding isn't until November, but I am going to go with it. I'm just having a friend do my hair and makeup for me, but she does a great job and I feel comfortable with her so that works well enough for me!

I am getting married in January. i already had 2 make up trials and hated both. have another one scheduled.. i think earlier is best and if you find someone you like, do a refresher trial closer to wedding to remind her what you liked..

I'm doing mine super early and doing it the day of my second set of engagement pictures, which is next month. I figure, if I don't like her at least I have time to find another MUA!

The timing of when my hair and make-up person does trials makes it really difficult for me to be able to do it (since they are an hour away). I was planning on winging it the day of, but several people have made me so terrified that I emailed the girl this morning. I'm hoping she can fit me in the Thursday before my wedding, since I will be taking that day and Friday off.

I'm not doing a trial. Don't wanna spend the extra money on something I only need done once. I already made my appointment, paid the deposit, and I'm just gonna wing it on the day of.
