I spent a total of $200 and got the dress of my dreams tailored to my exact measurements, the veil, and the petticoat for that price. It's doable!
I spent $500 on my dress and another $200 on the tulle overskirt. So $700 total. That was towards the top of my $800 budget. I couldn't justify spending a lot of a dress you wear for one day. I needed that money elsewhere so I found a dress that made me feel amazing and that was that. I only went to Davids Bridal I didn't even look at designer dresses or boutique stores because I knew I couldn't afford them. If I would have heard of Lulu's or Azazie before ordering my dress I would have entertained the thought of getting one there.
So I originally said I didn’t want to go over $500, including alterations, but quickly realized that wasn’t possible based on the quality and level of dressiness I wanted. I found some simple dresses for 100-300 at David’s bridal but they either looked cheaply made, or were lovely but too simple for my taste. I ended up spending $550, without alterations, but it fits me very well so I think the only alternations I will need are a hem and a bustle. There were other dresses I loved that were $700-1200 but I couldn’t justify the expense to myself. My MOH even offered to chip in for the difference and that would be her wedding gift, but I was like no it’s not about not having the money, it’s just about me personally not feeling right throwing THAT much money at a dress. Although the one I got was slightly more than I had wanted, I haven’t had a single regret and I bought it about 11 months ago. I do think I would’ve regretted (1) a simpler cheaper dress (2) spending more than I did

Mine was 1600 but my salon has a cap of 200 on alternations so the most I will spend is 1800 (2000 was my budget for the dress). I don’t think its wrong at all to want to spend less. Set a budget of what you are comfortable with and stick to it!
I had a budget of $1000 for my dress and knew I didnt want to spend more than that. I dont think theres anything wrong with wanting a low end priced dress. I think you can find a great dress that you love.

My future sister in law will be married this July and spent $200 on her dress. It is perfect and looks stunning on her. I will be married in 2020 and spent $400. It was a kick in the gut to spend that but I told myself if it’s $500 or below that’s a reasonable price. Both the $200 and $400 dresses are gorgeous in my eyes and I would have never guessed hers was half the price as mine. My first thought was, oh I wanted to find that good of a deal! Lol.
Honestly, I didn’t want to spend a lot but I wanted a custom made black gown so I knew I’d have to spend a bit more than I wanted to get exactly what I asked for. The dress was $2,399 which includes alterations, but an additional $250 to handmake it in black. Not ideal at all but I’m picky and couldn’t do a white one.
I had a budget of $1500 including alterations. I found my dress for $500, and the only alterations it may need(depending on shoes) is having it hemmed up.
Tell me who’s gonna know how much you paid??? I have seen some dresses that cost 15,000 and then I’ve also seen some dresses for 500 and you know what.....they ALL LOOKED THE SAME.....BEAUTIFUL ON THE BRIDE! No one needs to know how much....that’s a minor detail! It’s ok TRUST US it really is ok!
I waited for Davids Bridal semi annual sale and bought my dress for $100! the alterations should cost around $75 when the time comes. I hear some horror storues about Davids but i had an amazing experience and the consultant didnt care that I only wanted to try on the $99 dresses
You're not wrong at all. You're only going to wear it once, so there's no need to spend a fortune on it. There are so many beautiful, low-cost options these days. Mine was $1,763 and I probably didn't need to spend that much.

Mines worth $1800 but got it for $1200
I spent right around $500 for my dress . For me, that is not where I wanted to spend a lot of my budget for the wedding, but I will say that my alterations were quite expensive bc we had all the lace from my mom’s dress added to mine. But all in after alterations we were right around 1k.
