I spent $106 with tax it was on sale from $599 but I would've paid full price because I love the dress. I agree that it's what's important to you then compromise on the other stuff for me photography was very important so I put most of my budget into that and the venue.

Mine is $1246 for "full service" which includes the dress, the dress pressing, storage of the dress until the wedding, $50 off my veil, the garmet bag, and 20% discount off of the alterations. The dress was originally priced at $999

My budget was $2000, the price tag on my dress was $1600, but I bought the [new] sample instead which brought it down to $950 (including tax). With very minimal alterations and the bustle, I will probably spend $1100 altogether.

If your dress is really important to you, then spend what you feel is appropriate and bring down the budget on something else like flowers or nix the videographer.

This completely depends on the bride, her priorities, and her budget. I spent $99 on the dress plus $305 on alterations. In my opinion, it is INSANE to spend more than $1,000 on a dress, but that's because it was very low on my priority list.

My total budget was $1500 - dress was $1150 and alterations are $300, so I'm right on target. I don't think there's a right/wrong answer as long as it makes sense for your overall wedding budget. If you spend $20k on a dress but serve me cheese and crackers, THEN I side-eye you big-time.

Other attire costs - $80 for shoes but I'll wear them again, they're not "wedding shoes". $350 for veil restoration, but it's a family heirloom and that was a gift from my mom. $25 for earrings. I caved and bought a reception dress in case my gimongous train gets uncomfortable after 14 hours, but it was only $150 and it's a champagne color so I'll totally wear it again. I didn't put any of that into my "wedding budget", just paid for it out of my normal shopping budget as if I were buying a pair of jeans or something. Smiley smile

If your wedding dress is over $3000,,, your photography budget should be at least be$4,000plus,,, Hiring cheap photographer could make your dress look cheap in photo Smiley sad

If your dress budget is less than $1500,,,, expensive photographer could make your dress look expensive.

I agree--"too much" needs to be considered in terms of the whole wedding and your priorities, as well as what else you may or may not be sacrificing to buy it. I don't think we spent $2k on the whole affair, but my priorities were not the same.

I spent $190 on the first dress I bought, but ended up having to buy another one because the wedding was postponed and I gained a little fluff :-) The second dress was on a $99 David's sale, marked down from $500 or so. I felt really lucky!

I dont think 2k is too much to spend on something you love as long as you're not having to cut too many corners just to get it. A friend of my just bought her dress for 1600

Mine is $1250.00 without alterations. Hoping to spend only a few hundred dollars on alterations...so should be around $1600.00.

Veil is $130.00, shoes are $30.00. Haven't decided on jewellery. Might try to borrow something from my Grandmother or Aunt....both have beautiful collections.

I bought my dress for $25 brand new, at a bridal store that was going out of business. It was $450 to start with, then they dropped it to $100 and it was %75 off. I still have to get it altered though.

As of right now I am intending to make my own dress. I expect all in all it will cost me about $100.

If I were buying I was willing to spend up to $1000 although I found several great dresses that were only $500.

I agree with the other ladies - its all relative to what's on your importance list and how much you want to shop & research.

I haven't bought mine yet, but I hope to stay in the 5-700 range. So far every dress that I've fallen in love with has been in that ball park. I haven't bought it yet cuz I'm just too fat. I'm spending more on getting healthy than on the dress. Diets and the Gym are friggin' expensivo!

It is really what you feel comfortable with spending. I am planning on getting a Dolly Couture dress and the dress alone is between $500 and $700 and they will make it to your specifications and measurements and you can ask for special things (like no sleeves or with sleeves, longer skirt or shorter skirt). Not sure how much alterations would be as I would have to find a local place to have that done. However, since I am saving tons of money on the cruise wedding itself, I'll be okay with whatever the alterations (however much needed) will cost me.

Dress is 1850, after tax with alterations included. I will end up paying $50-75 to add a bustle + the cost of a veil (no idea what they cost). I don't need any special undergarments as it is a corset gown and I won't even need a bra, woot! We set the budget for the dress at $1500, I found the dress, I called FH, confirmed he wouldn't be upset if I went over on the budget and then bought the dress.

Personally speaking though I bought a $400 prom dress back in 2003... paid for it myself, while paying my own bills (rent, gas, food etc. ) making a whopping $6.25 an hour, that took forever! Sooo it's a good guess to say that I really, really care about the dress =).

@JabezPhotography - my catering, venue, photographer and rentals cost more than the dress Smiley winking. Thankfully my flowers will cost less lol (not my priority).
