How much did you spend on Wedding Photography

I need to book a photographer asap, but in Seattle, WA they are charging like $3,000 or more. What is normal for 10 hours/all day?

Congratulations!! We're getting married the same day next year. I have been researching photographers and $3k is about the going rate now, and I'm here in Hawaii. Are you planning on hiring a videographer too? if you can find someone who can do photo and video, you may get a better deal. I found a video/photo company who will do unlimited shoots, all day coverage for $6k. Good Luck!

I would definitely be careful of the $500 wedding photographer. I used to charge that much when I started a couple of years ago, and it was a great way to gain exposure (I shot over 100 weddings in 18 months), but most people get into wedding photography thinking it's a great way to make some fast cash, and they never pan into anything that great. Make sure that you compare their work to many others in the area, and not just jump at it because it is a good price. Another important thing is liability insurance. If they don't have that, and they don't show up for ANY reason, things might turn south real quick. Just a thought! But anyway, I would say that $2,000 to $5,000 for wedding photography is a great budget to work with depending on what you are looking to get as a finished result.

Have you ever thought to use a wedding videographer? I have a fabulous contact that, personally, I would spend every penny of before hiring a photographer for the same amount.. www.bogleproductions.com Look at some of his sample videos. He truly makes your wedding a motion picture! This aside, it is always good to have a wedding photographer to capture the stills and have something that you can hang up in your new home together. Just remember to be realistic... because as time goes by, these pictures will most likely be replaces as the family grows.

I get the feeling we have a real bargain with ours. My MOH paid £1750 for hers - two photographers. I'm paying £850. Now that would worry me from what I've read on here, but I've seen a lot of the guys work. He has a photoblog, he posts slideshows of each wedding he does on facebook as he does them, and he has a great portfolio on his website. His fb page means we can directly speak to past customers - and they all seem delighted. We also met him at our venue last week.

We paid $700 (originally $800)for our photographer. This includes all day coverage, online gallery of all images, CD, retouching/editing, and rights to the photos. Our photographer is fairly new (less than 2 years) but she has done two of our friends weddings and their pictures were gorgeous!!! I was skeptical at first until I saw her work but she is actually being booking fast now! Each week I go on her website and she has added new pictures from a wedding she shot the previous weekend. With her affordable packages and quality work, I am glad I booked when I did. And for the people who say $500 is not good, some people are just willing to work with your budget, it doesn't mean that they cannot produce quality work. It may also depend on what area you are located in. I am in the Raleigh/Durham (NC)area, so there are tons of photographers competing, and that is probably one reason why I was able to find such a good deal. On a 10K budget, $3k would have been too much for me.

I paid 1,200 for my photographer and an assistant. That was for 6hrs of coverage, rights to the pictures so we could print and post, High resoulution CD (we had like 900 pictures and a lot were edited). That also included another shoot (engagement TTD or budiour) The girl I had was the style I wanted, but was thousands less than the other photographers with the same style and quality I had been looking at. She is still building up the buisness so I am sure that rate will rise higher in the next year or so.

You will be able to find good photography at most price points. Those who are charging less are often either just starting or they do it part time. In that case, it will do you well to look thoroughly into their portfolio and see other complete coverage shoots, if available. If you like what you see, chances are that photographer will work for you. But there is a lot to be said for spending more and getting the experienced, established, full-time photographer. For someone charging $3k and up, you will usually find a full-time photographer who is running a decent business. For those photographers, $3k is a good starting mark, as that is what it takes in most areas to actually make a living shooting 30-40 weddings per year. Remember, the photographer will spend far more time on your package than the 8-10 hours on your wedding day. They must also pay assistants, equipment depreciation, etc. that they must factor into their costs to remain a viable business for any length of time.

I am spending $750. The person I am using doesn't do photography for a living (it's a hobby) and it includes 6 hours of photography and CD with edited photos, and the copy rights to the photos so I can print them where ever I want. He does really great work and is listed here on wedding wire.

I used 2 photographers because the venue I used for the actual wedding provided photography, but because I only had less than 4 months to plan my wedding, I had to have the reception offsite and I wanted some photos taken at the reception and afterwards (my reception was very simple at a steak restaurant). Both photographers provided a disc of their photos, and one allowed me to do some engagement-like photos after the wedding. I think I really paid about $1800 between the two photographers, but that also included the wedding ceremony, and the preacher. My second photographer for after the wedding included 40 4x6 prints plus the CD with copyright, and my wedding photographer at the venue provided a $100 print credit to which I just printed 3 8x10s which totalled $120, so I put up another $20. I loved both of the photographers I used, and they both had different styles.

We are paying less, but, we there will only be one photographer, not two. There is a 2 hour engagement session included and no timeframe.. The shooting will start from getting ready to the end of the reception. I think 3,0000 is a fairly average price..

I do Wedding photography on the side. For this area brides will frown at prices over $1500.00 to start with. Although, after my presentation, which include sample studio albums, a custom printed dvd, 8x10 and smaller photos and of course the ipad presentation. I am beginning to book my mid level package.

I have a competitor here in town that will shoot anything for a mere #300.00, no matter the time frame. But, unfortunately she has nothing to show perspective clients.

Man, we should've moved somewhere else. I can't remember the exact number but I think it was around 3-4K & it includes:

    - 6hrs

    - an assistant

    - digital CDs

    - credit to use towards whatever

    - online gallery for 4 months (originally 2 but asked to extend it)

Can't think of anything else :-/
