How much did you pay to get married in your church?

Shay, on June 4, 2015 at 10:50 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

I hope it is not too personal but I am truly interested in knowing the average price for a couple getting married in their church. We are tithe paying members of our church and we were charged $600. The pastor is currently looking into making provisions to the price because it seemed a little high to us.

We paid 300 for the use of the sanctuary

    250 for the minister

    150 for the pianist

    100 for the custodian

    So $800 total

We had a new priest come to the church a couple months ago and he's SUPER old school, doesn't believe that the church should be paid for marrying a couple. Its a suggested donation.

I think we're giving him $100 and the musician $150 (he HAS to be paid for his time)

So far, $200 for the cantor and $200 for the organist. Not sure about the cost of the sanctuary yet.

$1600 and I had to take a $200 marriage class and it doesn't include any music. I think music is like an extra $200-$400

I'm of the same opinion as Maltese's priest Smiley smile it's 0 for us to use the church. We'll give the priest and servers a stipend and we'll pay the organist, but I'm not sure what the organist costs yet, probably about $300.

Outlier here - we paid $2200. This is one of the oldest buildings in the city and they also allow non Catholics to marry here so they don't have a different fee for members. The fee includes everything though, wedding guild, music and organist, altar servers as well as parking for our guests. Renovations sure don't come cheap O_O

    $500 for our membership

    $100 for the wedding coordinator

    $100 for the organist

Our sponsor paid the chanter, custodian fees and gave the priest a gift card.

for our church its $300 for members, $400 for non members, and $150 for the organist plus there has to be a $10/per alter server gratuity on the day of. And the $200 marriage classs

But it really depends on the church and the area. one of the churches we were looking at wanted $700 for the church, $200 for the organist, $20 gratuity per alter server plus we would have had to join as affiliate members and give donations for at least 4 months :/

I am the children's minister of my church. So my pastor said it was free except for the $200 cleaning fee that went straight to the cleaning crew. The sound guy, musician, coordinator were all friends of ours so we gave them gifts instead of their usual fees. I wrote the pastor a check for $100 but he returned it to me saying it's weird because he's my boss. I think ordinarily the church is around $600 (facility, counseling, officiant, sound, cleaning) for members. You can pay another $100 for an organist/pianist or bring in your own.

Ours is going to be $475 total (not including a discretionary pastor honorarium) and that includes all music and a day of coordinator. Also, our church is small and only has maybe 2-3 weddings a year so I think that is why they are on the lower side.

I should add that the building is 90 years old in Los Angeles and seats 350 people. We had a morning ceremony for 350 and a dinner reception for 220 in the social hall (we had an off-site lunch reception).

We aren't getting married in a church, but if you want to compare we are paying $2/person for setup and $300 for the officiant, plus $250 for ceremony music so around 850
