We are spending $700 for them to play from 5-11 p.m. $200 for uplighting and then we are also considering adding the ceremony music for an extra $150. So altogether we are probably looking at about $1150, but for everything that we get that is a really good price for around here. Oh and we are in Michigan.

6 hours anywhere from 350-500 and sometimes you can get uplighting with these prices. Orlando area.

Latasha that's crazy. What area of NY are you in? NY is pretty expensive overall but that seems crazy.

Magic416- Albany, NY or Georgia? Which DJ company are you going with?

We are blessed to not have to pay for one (a wedding gift from one of our many dj friends). But if we had to pay, we would be paying $300-400 dollars.

$400 here in Boston for 6 hrs with a Mister of Ceremony who will do all the announcing and light with a great selection of old school r&b and jazz music. Then take it back to the hip hop era of the 70's and 80's. He is a club DJ.

$700 but he's friends with my brother (PA here), and he just jacked his rate up to $1500 bc that's the average rate around here.

I'm in Oregon and we're paying $745 for our DJ. However, our wedding is during the day AND our DJ is a preferred vendor of the venue we booked so there may be a bit of a discount there. Try seeing if your venue has a favorite or preferred venue list. Good luck!

We payed $1,100 for our dj, for 5 hours, Bose sound speakers, and light system thing. It is a couple hundred cheaper without the extras, but everyone raved about our DJ and the music, and my friends cousin is going to get the same DJ because people liked it so much. If you are on Long Island it would be good to check out IntheMixDJ in Mineola. Professional, easy website, and everyone loved the music.

    Try John at http://www.trifectaentertainmentnj.com/

His prices are under $850 and I am almost positive he will travel to your area.

@Mrs. Jacques...Since I'm in NH too, I was wondering if you could tell me who you used for your DJ? We can't find anything reasonable!

Careful about the pros--they're just a service that bids your ceremony out to pretty much any DJ that is willing to do it. A big chunk of the money goes to the company, the rest goes to the DJ. You'd be better off doing your research and finding a DJ yourself.

Prices vary a lot by market. We're in the Detroit area and price from $600. I'm told our rates are very reasonable. I'd be surprised to hear that $500 would go very far in NY, but it's not a market that I know much about, so maybe so.

$2500 with favors and plasmas sounds about the average here in the New York area. The bottom line is that's not the type of package you want and I'm surprised that the DJ tried to sell it to you.

There are three types of consumers, the ones looking for lowest cost, the ones looking for the best value, and the ones that want top of the line and will pay extra for it. You need to determine where you fit in these categories.

Lowest cost consumers are only loyal to price and don't care what they're getting for it. In the case of booking a DJ, you could risk the success of your wedding event. A DJ may offer a low cost for a number of reasons but beware of the following:

    • they may not have liability insurance

    • they may not be reliable

    • they may not have wedding experience

Value based consumers are not afraid to pay a little extra for better quality services without breaking the bank. You may want to consider raising your budget a little to get the best suitable package.

    Latasha,

My standard fee is $150 per hour, so $750 for a 5-hour reception.

The problem you might be running into is your wedding is scheduled for the peak wedding season. Most of those dates have already been booked.
