how much did you pay for your dj?

Mrs. Phillips, on October 10, 2010 at 4:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 45

Me and FH are now looking for a dj. since we switched recp hall we have to get a dj. i was getting quotes from a few of them and it's a lot of money. like one guy wanted 2500, to play musice for 5hrs, and do some favor thing, which i don't want and i don't want the plasma tvs, i just want music to dance too. i think that's a lot of money and it was with basic lights. i'm only trying to spend $500 at the most. any one have any ideas for djs in NY area?

@Alyson that is not bad including the ceremony, but they were charging $2500 just for 5 hrs, that's way to much. the other guy we found wats $1000 and that is the best price so far, but we're going to keep looking

You might want to check the local schools, if they preform dances you may find a DJ that does school dances for a reasonable price. If you are looking for someone to just play music and nothing too special you may get lucky.

@Mrs. Jacques that is a good idea!! i didn't think of that at all, but i might run that pass FH and see wat he says . yeah the whole favor thing to me is not a good day because there are kids there and i think giving them anything they can hit people with or keep blowing is not an good idea to me

I am getting mine for about $567 or something close to that number from 5-10pm and I went with the pros which has locations everywhere. Check in the vendors section. That might help. I have never paid more than $600 for a dj for parties in the past I think $1000 is way too much or anything over that price...definetly keep looking!

The other thing you could try for music is checking with dance studios nearby that host weekly/monthly dances. The people who DJ those things are usually quite cheap, you'll just get basic fender setup (so you won't get top of the line quality), but it should be about $100 an hour (or if your venue has a sound system built in that they could plug into).

I used to do a lot of dancing, you could try yehoodi.com. It's a site for social dancers (primary of the lindy hop persuasion, but the people there tend to cover quite a spectrum). It's a site based out of NYC, and I know there are quite a few NYC DJs on there.

I doubt you can get a decent DJ for $500 in NY.

Most of the ones I talked to in Houston were $****, with some higher depending the equipment (light shows, etc) they could offer.

It's sad, but most people don't realize that nightclub DJ's are a world apart from wedding DJ's. A wedding DJ wouldn't be very good at doing a club event. The opposite is true as well. Finding a DJ It's like selecting the right shoes to wear. You wouldn't wear heels to play a soccer match nor would you wear tennis shoes to a formal event.

Here are a couple of links to consider when you're researching your wedding entertainment:

    http://theflirtyguide.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-much-should-your-wedding-dj-cost.html

Make your selection based on whether or not you CLICK with the DJ, you feel s/he can provide the service(s) you require, and WHAT YOU GET for what you paid. A common misconception is that a wedding DJ just plays music. But will they make your wedding day special? That's the big difference!

Check out Fusion Productions Ent (DJ Rich) in Union NJ. My planner recommends him and says he budget friendly. I haven't contacted him yet because we're not ready to start looking yet. Let me know how he works out

Check out craiglist under events, there's usually all kinds of dj's on there with specials. Just make sure to ask for references.

We spent approximately $800 for 6 hours. And then we can pay for additional hours if needed. We live in a rural area in Pennsylvania and this is actually one of the better deals. Plus, he was the DJ for my sisters wedding last year and I loved his style and everything he did!
