How much are you paying per person for food?

I am working on my budget for catering and was just curious how much everyone is paying per person for food. I am paying $10 per person for catering from Carrabas which includes chicken marsala or salmon with garlic mashed potatos, soup or salad, and bread.

Approx $118 per person for a 3 course sit down meal... includes open bar the whole time. It also includes the cake. I also don't have a separate fee to use the venue.

We are at $25 pp for just dinner not including tax & service charge. Alcohol works out to be about $18 pp plus tax & service charge for open bar beer & wine for 3.5 hours. And hors d'oeuvres are done by the platter not pp.

Weddings are so freaking expensive! We got many quotes for 80 pp and I was shocked!

We're paying around $85.00 a head. Fortunately my dad is in the food service industry and the reception is actually his office building, so that includes a bunch of appetizers, stations, alcohol and the cake.

$13 for BBQ Picnic. Not including cake/alcohol, etc. or tax and gratuity.

@Dianne D - you can rent Port a Johns. They make "luxury" flush models w/sinks, mirrors, etc. They have those for these types of special occasions. So if you really want to have it in your back yard, don't let the bathroom be an issue.

The prices are going to vary depending on where you live and what meal style (sit down/buffet) and what package, etc you choose.. I would say most venues offer a range of choices for folks on a budget, especially nowdays. I am paying $49.95/pp but after you include any fees or additions to the dessert, taxes, etc, We're about about $57/pp...which still isnt bad. The orig. price for the venue we chose was around $72/pp but we went to them with a "Wedding Stimulus Package" from another venue which was somewhat local, (But we didnt really like the setup, tho, we didnt tell the new venue that, LOL) and we asked them to match it and they did, very graciously. So our $57/pp includes tea/coffee/cookies upon guests arrival, chicken masala, stuffed salmon, or prime rib for dinner with a vegetarian option thrown in there for good measure...unlimited soda/water/whatever and open bar included..our wedding cake is included in our pkg as well as pastries on each table, & coffee/tea.

We're paying $59.95/person which doesn't include tax and gratuity, but DOES include everything else...open bar, entree selections from our package or the ones below it, linens, centerpieces, etc etc. For where we live, we thought that was great!

I am in NJ so prices are high. We are paying around $125 per person and this was actually the lowest price we found. Its for cocktail hour which is going to have tons of food(butler served food, carving station, potato bar, seafood station, 3 chafing dishes, italian station), 3 course meal, cake, dessert tables, open bar, centerpieces, linens

NJ prices make me cry though!

I have no idea yet. The place I'm looking at for food charges separately for staff and food. Plus, I have to do everything separate due to the wedding being in Wyoming. I don't think most of them have even heard of a venue with a caterer, or a caterer that does cakes, etc. I'm hoping for just dinner that I can do about $10-$13pp, plus the staff fees, which will be about $1500 for the size of wedding I'm having.

I live in Philadelphia so the lowest prices are around $135 and going up to over $200. The venue we are looking at is $175 a person. That includes 1 hour cocktail with 6 stations and 30 butlered cocktails. 5 1/2 hours of primium openbar. 4 1/2 hours reception. A 4 course sit down dinner with table wine service. our wedding cake and 10 dessert stations. Needless to say no one will be going home hungry! Also the venue we are having it at is BEAUTIFUL. so I believe I am also paying for the uniqueness of it also.

NJ prices are sometimes high, but it helps to work around the peak times of year or certain days of the week. That's why we opted for March, but were lucky to find an inexpensive place to have it on a Saturday. While we were looking I fell in love w/ Clarks Landing in Point Pleasant, but to pay way over $100/plate was crazy, IMO. We still wanted to live after the wedding and not have to just invite our parents and bridal party, LOL. If you can afford it, why the hell not, though, right?!

@ Kylie- GREAT find! Smiley smile

I am at $100 with all fees and taxes which includes: downtown parking, alcohol, cocktail hour, dinner- w/2 chefs carving. We are doing a custom station buffet, so I could have done it cheaper.

We're in NYC and the cheapest per person cost we found was about $120 which was crazy especially because it only included tables, chairs and food, no bar and heck not even linen for the tables! EEEKS

We moved our venue to Stamford, CT & thanks to the Holiday Inn we are now paying $95 per person. It may sound costly but look at what we get:

    Cheese, Fruit, Bread Platter

    4 Cocktail Hour Appetizers

    Open Bar for 5 hours

    3 Course Sit Down Dinner

    Champagne Toast

    Wedding Cake

    Linens

    Votive Candles

One night complimentary (it's in a hotel)

.. and if we want we can get an event room for either a rehearsal dinner or next day breakfast or brunch for only $100 with a use of 3 hours (which we are doing)
