How much alcohol did you purchase?

AK <3 NS, on December 21, 2015 at 12:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hello! I have a meeting on Tuesday with the event coordinator at the hotel where I am having my reception. She wanted me to come with a rough idea of food and drink preferences.

FH and I have decided to cover beer and wine for the night (which we have to purchase ahead of time from our venue). I promise I googled this question, but there are so many vastly different answers out there. How many kegs and how many bottles of wine did you need for your wedding? I'm just looking for more than a Pinterest chart to figure out such a big budgetary thing. I thought many of you would have experience with this. :-)

We are expecting 250 people (about 180 above drinking age) and the cocktail hour will be from 4:15-5:30 with dinner at 6:00 and dancing following until 10:00.

Any advice or sites/charts that you found to be accurate?

Thanks!

I'd like to know too... I, too, have spent some time trying different alcohol calculators and get very different results.

I am also wondering! I've heard 1 drink per hour per person. But then I'm not sure how to split it between wine, beer, and then the types of each. Definitely a headache.

How many does each keg serve? That's a big difference (small keg vs. large keg). Our bartenders said that each keg served 150, but I think we got closer to 200 glasses out of it. We did 1 keg of our favorite beer, and then an open bar to $2500. That lasted from 4:30 cocktail hour, 6 pm dinner, to midnight dance.

We averaged 4 drinks per person since some will drink more and some less.

Do you have to purchase by keg and bottle? For open bar we just put an amount towards it and people could get what they wanted... that may be easier because they you don't have to determine amount of beer/wine.

We are having open beer and wine at our wedding, the venue doesn't carry a full liquor license and we are happy with just the beer and wine. Our venue is a winery so all of their wine will be available so I can do mixed cases OR I will pick out say 4 wines for people to choose from. We are also doing wine slushies for my signature drink. FH is brewing a beer at a local brewery for the wedding as well has having I believe 3-4 other kegs. We aren't sure if we will get kegs of Coors Light and a darker beer or have them available in bottles.

We will have between 150-170 guests and a lot are heavy drinkers. The bar will be open right after our ceremony starting at 5:00 and open until we end at 10:30.

I think we should be set with the amount and are only at about $1,100 for alcohol.

Ladies, thank you! I think this will be very helpful after some math. :-) Yes, we have to pre-purchase by keg and by bottle of wine, so I'm caught in that tough spot between purchasing enough for everyone and not overspending on unused alcohol.
