How many slow songs at the reception?

Jax, on July 9, 2012 at 6:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hey ladies, i was just wondering how many slow songs do you typically play throughout the whole wedding? Is it wrong to play more upbeat songs then slow songs?

I didn't realize it but we only had one! We really wanted a booty shaker reception so we forgot to put any slow songs on our list except the anniversary dance. Only one person said something about it... keep in mind we had the DJ play everything people requested so I guess they didn't want it that bad.

That's good to know. My fmil flipped when i told her i am only playing 2 or 3 slow songs and she demanded i played alot more. But that's not what i want at my wedding. I feel like she is tring to control everything..

If you are having a DJ, and they are good they will read the crowd. FH recently DJ'd a wedding where the bride requested all fast songs (country and gangster rap). He made the call to play a slow song because the only people dancing were bride and her sorority sisters. Everyone got up and danced to the slow song (mostly family and older guests at the wedding). The bride flipped, so next he started playing fast songs and everyone sat back down.

I think it also depends on the guests - most of ours are older (like us) so mine is mixed about half and half I think.

Like 3-5 songs.... TOPS. lol. A wedding is a celebration, and I want some fun shake your tail feather music.

Our first dance, the mother/son dance & the father/daughter dance, the anniversary dance... and that's probably it. I have been to some weddings where the music is more like a high school dance (4 fast/fun songs followed by 2 slow songs)... it just kinda kills the energy.

Since we met dancing at a Funk & Soul Meetup group.... we will have a majority of fast music. But will sprinkle a few slow songs so we can catch our breath!!!
