How many "Photos" do you get from photographers?

Michael, on November 5, 2015 at 8:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 36

I have been receiving so many different messages from many different photographers. When some photographers say they will give you "all" the files, does that mean they give you all files they edited and some unedited?

I talked to another photographer who said he would give 100-150 photo's edited. To me, that seems like it is little but im not sure how that works too.

Any help would be great before hiring one!

It's not quantity; it's quality. Hopefully Jay will weigh in, but I see far too many "spray and pray" photographers, who take dozens of photos a minute......

I commented on your other one. My package said 1000+ photos because it has a second shooter.

I have them for 10 hours. So that's about 50 pictures per hour per photographer.

In case you don't check the other thread, I'm posting here too Smiley smile

It depends on how long they'll be taking pictures. We got about 600 pics for 6 hours with two shooters. Are they offering you 100-150 per hour, or for a specific period? One or two shooters? What have the other photographers told you? Are their price ranges similar?

It is for him and another shooter, 6-8 hour coverage, 100-150 photo edited, for $1250. so for the pricing its not bad but obviously we would like more photos. Viewing his other works, we loved his style and quality but we would like more photos too.

The other package includes only 250 photos.

Do you get the rest of the unedited photos? Or does he only present you with 100 photos?

I'd be fine with 100 edited, the rest unedited. I wouldn't be okay with only 100 photos. I know they would be providing me with the best of my photos but there is still a part of me that wants those memories. Some of the people in those photos will be gone shortly and I don't care if it's not the best photo in the photographer's eyes, I want every memory of them I can possibly get my hands on.

I am waiting for a response back from him now. I asked about if we are able to keep the rest unedited.

My fiancee and I are the same way, we would not like only 100-150.

We are getting 500 edited with a second shooter for 10 hours, but we are paying 3400. Photos do take time to edit, which is why the price may be a bit more affordable.

All the photographers I've talked to never give unedited image to a client.

I'm not sure how many I will be receiving, I think somewhere between 700-1000 pictures? I did my engagement shoot with her and received about 300 edited photos for a 2 hour shoot. I know she edits all the photos before she gives them to me, but it does take awhile to get them all back because of her taking her time with the edits.

I would hate to only receive 100-150 photos for an entire wedding!

We paid for 10 hours with two shooters. We got 1750 edited photos, however we only bought the rights to 500. We can buy the rights to the rest but I don't think I need 4 photos of table numbers.

I received about 800 photos, all retouched, in less than two weeks. That being said, it's ridiculous to expect that kind of service, but it does happen. My photographer said she had so much fun at our wedding, and she was so touched by our story, that she wanted to give us everything. They are amazing, but now I can't pick which ones I want for an album. It's a double edged sword.

I got 1650 raw images, on CD's and I get to pick 100 for an album. Honestly it will be a challenge because they are amazing. I had 10 hrs with 2 shooters, and several different locations in the metro St.Louis area ( we had the dreaded and loathed gap because of it)

We received around 250-300 images in total; had the photographer (with a second shooter) for about 9 hours. It totally depends on the style and the photographer. We really splurged with our photographer who I adore his style; the turn-around time was about 10-12 weeks and all of the images that we were given were edited and print-worthy.

I can understand why you ask this, though it's the wrong thing to concern yourself with. There are varying styles of photography, for example I'm documentary / photojournalism. I have a lower image count than other styles, and those who use multiple photographers....which again does not automatically mean you as the client are gaining anything further of value. I'm more about carefully anticipated and captured moments....and when the complete wedding is delivered, a story is told and it looks natural and full of life. I don't promise any image count, and it means nothing. I usually deliver between 350-500- ish. I don't have 742 photos of the same people dancing from different angles, or that many from the pedestrian part of the ceremony. Often the runners and gunners get more photos, sure.....but they miss the heart and soul of the wedding and the people.

I cull those that don't make the cut, nothing I deliver, nor would any photographer worth their salt, provide RAW or unfinished work. At the end of the day, you want a story told. Say you get 400-500 photos back...and maybe 100 go in an album, thinking about it that way, what good would hundreds more do you? I had a bride ask once, I met with a couple who say they deliver 2,000 photos or so, do you come close to that? I said no, that's not the premise of my value point. Have you ever sat down and looked through 2,000 photos? She said no, hesitantly. I said, I've worked as a photo editor, neither have I. Smiley smile

My photographer gave me 250 from our engagement session (he normally delivers 100-150, but said we just had too many good ones), but it was almost too many for that. I've been having a hard time selecting ones for any use (save the dates, ones to print, website, Facebook album, etc). I agree with what's been said by the pros. A few hundred quality ones from your day is much better than having to sift through thousands.
