How many "Photos" do you get from photographers?

I have been receiving so many different messages from many different photographers. I talked to another photographer who said he would give 100-150 photo's edited. To me, that seems like it is little but im not sure how that works too.

Any help would be great before hiring one!

For 8 hours we got about 1500 photos and they took over 4000 photos. However our photographer told us he gave us about twice as many as usual because he knew DH is a photographer and wanted a lot of options. Because of this it took him a little longer to get our pictures back which was fine. But they were all edited.

I got 730- plus edited photos.

ETA: that was 2 shooters for 8 hours. 150?! No where near enough pictures for that amount of time!

I couldn't even imagine *taking* 250 photos in an engagement session, let alone finishing and releasing anywhere near that amount. I don't get that spray and pray mentality with multiple thousand wedding photos....the thought of that sounds exhausting. Effectiveness to tell a story when viewing full events, is what matters. My 2 cents, worth every penny you paid Smiley laugh

Our package was $1500 she was with us for almost 12 hours! She had a second shooter at the church but no where else. It was all natural light photography. we got over 1500 edited photos!! With my experience we got really lucky though! good luck.

I usually try to stay around 100 fully retouched images for every hour that a couple has me for. I can't imagine releasing the RAW files.

Our photographer has in our contract that he will give us as many images as possible. As a customer, I would prefer to have EVERY good picture - so if they cap it at 500, and there are 501 good pictures, I just dont get that one? Or on the flip side, there were only 400 amazing pictures, so I got 100 more crap ones? I don't really understand that business approach, but I guess as customers we generally like to quantify things to make us feel like we're making an informed decision. I know my photographer is amazing, and I fully trust him to give us every single amazing shot of the day.

@Michelle I can assure you that there is no "cap" on the images I give a customer. The number I gave was just a generalization, since I wouldn't be able to justify to myself only giving a customer 500 pictures if there were 40 more really good ones. Some clients just request a minimum number, and the at least 100 per hour is usually what I tell them.

Sorry LindsayEileen. I hadn't even read any of the comments and that wasn't directed at you. Smiley sad I see that you said as a guideline you try to stay AROUND 100 per hour and that makes perfect sense. My reply was meant for the OP to possibly look for someone who doesnt promise a set amount.

Michelle, me personally I don't cap or deliver any quantity with any certain dogma of minimum or maximum, I just get my clients out of that how many mentality. And we can all focus on quality.

Perfect, Jay! That is how it should be and was the point I was trying to make, although that means as customers we have to stop trying to quantify it and be able to fully trust our photographer, which is not always easy!

I got about 500 edited from my photographer for 4 hrs, this include family portraits etc.. i feel like that was enough for me, i dont need pictures of people that have one eye closed and half talking. she never promised a specific amount of pictures but said that typically she has 100 deliverable photos per hour, i am wondering if that amount of pictures is per hour? or they could be under promising in hopes to over deliver on your expectations.

but i agree with the Quality over Quantity aspect especially with photography.

Mine didn't have an exact count, but from her past weddings around 700-800 edited photos.

I have a good friend who is an excellent photographer but already has a booking on my wedding day (so sadSmiley sad ) but I messaged her the other day when looking for my own and what I should ask and she replied with this.

"Also ask a rough estimate on how many images they typically deliver. I'm a 600-1000 girl because I don't think a single moment that I capture should go undelivered. But a lot of photographer may not give that much. I'd say no to anyone who says less than 400. "

    Hope that helps!

My photographer said the best thing. She may find a photo amazing but others may not. So she takes and gives more. You never know if that one missed shot was the golden egg.

Mine took about 3,000 and I got about 2,000 edited and returned to me on a jump drive. Mine said photo rights to ALL photos. I paid about $2,000. So maybe for your $1250 price that only includes 100 edited photos. I would suggest finding some that will give you all (and ask them what the average amount you get back is!) because you never know what you'll like. I had a shot list but love someone of the candids of us with guests just as much! She didn't give us any of the bad ones like people's eyes closed and stuff. All the "formal" shots and ceremony were edited too.
