How many kegs do we need?!

Elise, on June 11, 2013 at 5:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

We are having between 175-200 guests at our wedding (15 will be children). Most of our legal drinking aged guests will be in their 20s and we have two pretty large Irish Catholic families, meaning most of our adults are average drinkers also.

How many kegs do we need for 5 hours? We are providing the beer and wine and will have a cash bar for liquor. Any help is great! Thanks!

We are having 130 people and are having 2 kegs. One light beer and one dark beer.

It is tough to know for sure. We had about the same size wedding and have beer drinking families. We wanted variety, so we talked about one keg of light beer, a pony keg of wheat, and a pony of dark. We also served apple wine and hard cider that my apple orchard venue makes and sells. A surprise to everyone, our normally beer drinking guests guzzled wine and cider all night. Thankfully our venue was awesome and kept delivering more than we initially ordered. After the wedding, we had a wine bill to pay and the embarrassment of returning near full kegs.

That is tough. We had ~ 100 drinkers (quite a large proportion were heavy drinkers) at our engagement party and one keg, which we didn't float. People opted for wine and hard alcohol, then switched to beer when we ran out of that. Actually, we had tons of wine left over but anyway...

Our wedding will be comprised of ~150 drinkers so we're thinking of just getting two kegs. We'll also be serving wine and several mixed drinks so should be enough.

Forgot to add, our reception is also 5 hours.
