How many cake tastings did you have before deciding which baker to go with?

I don't think it's odd, just make sure neither has an only dessert clause. (Like you aren't allowed to use anyone else)

We had tastings with two places, both were free appointments. The first one, who we ended up choosing, was a referral from our venue who we also ran across during our searches. This place was great! Yummy cake and right on budget.

The second place, a smaller shop, was cheaper and had OK cake. We decided that they would be best for a birthday or graduation cake, not for a wedding. As this was really the only thing my FH was asking for, so we chose the first place.

I only went to one tasting and ended up using them. I had read lots of reviews and that’s why I chose them to begin with. I think it’s fine to use two vendors.

Im a Baker and it was hard for me not to want to do my own cake....however my wedding planner found a baker who met my expectations at the 1st tasting! I was so happy💕😃

One cake tasting but I booked him before the tasting. Everyone I know goes with him. I finally go for the tasting and I was not disappointed. Soft moist cake, I could have any combination of filling and flavors I wanted. I was a bit intimidated by what he had on display but no job was to big or small for him. He did a great job!

As previous posters have said I don’t see anything wrong with your idea. Sounds like a great idea you and FH both get what you like😊

We sampled bakeries on weekends while out and about before scheduling a tasting, 3 before we found the one. I personally feel like I want to know how they are every day, not just on those special days. Nothing was right until we found our bakery. They had the flavor we want, were willing to work with us (2 brides), tasted great, and the cost for what we wanted was reasonable. We kept going back even after our tasting to try different cupcakes and settled on the 3 additional flavors we wanted. I didn't love every flavor we tasted but I always appreciated that none were too sweet.

I think two different bakeries would be fine, but keep delivery and/or pick-up options in mind before settling on that idea.

I only went to two tastings. The first was more so a cupcake shop and she carried over her cupcake recipes to cakes and it showed... Cupcakes and cake recipes are not the same. Her cake was dense and didn't remind me of wedding cake. Not to mention she basically told me she wouldn't do a 4 tier cake (what I wanted) because of travel. The second bakery is actually a bakery of desserts and cakes. We chose this one. His cake was not dense and buttercream flavors were delicious! I am getting my 4 tiers like I wanted for only $310!! I found that he was affordable because I checked in a town that was past my venue rather than something local to my area. I would say you can use two bakeries so long as they have no clauses in their contract about using other bakeries.

Our one tier cake and a dozen cupcakes are key lime coconut. We will also have cupcakes in Tiramisu, S'mores, and Caramel Apple Pie. They felt right for our fall wedding on the beach.

I have a local mom-and-pop bakery that I was dead set on using from the getgo. So that's what we did. They make the best deserts and I love supporting small businesses.

We only went to two tastings, and we went with the second one. Her cakes were just as good as the first one's, for literally half the price. The second one didn't have a storefront/rented space at an industrial type kitchen (which my mom was really wary of because she met us at a Starbucks), but that cut down her overhead so she could charge a much more reasonable price. If I remember correctly, I had a 3-tier with a fake 4th tier for about $450.

My FH and I only did 1 cake tasting and knew right away we had to book them!

The first tasting was at a bridal show and we all thought it was way too sweet. The second place charged $5 per mini cake and I think my daughter ordered 5 to taste. They loved one of them and went with her. Another thing I think they really liked about the second baker was they said to send them a picture of the cake at the venue and they will bake them a fresh cake for their year anniversary.
