How far in advance did you request the time off?

Just curious how far out did you notify your employers of the time off for your wedding/hm? A coworker looked at me like I was crazy the other day when she asked if I took it off yet and I said no. I have 7 1/2 months left. I work at a credit union and I got a promotion so I'm starting at a new...

Just curious how far out did you notify your employers of the time off for your wedding/hm? A coworker looked at me like I was crazy the other day when she asked if I took it off yet and I said no. I have 7 1/2 months left. I work at a credit union and I got a promotion so I'm starting at a new branch on the 14th, so I wanted to wait to talk to my new boss about it anyways. But we all use Workday (one single online "portal" for hr/time off, etc for the whole company). So any request I make can be seen by any boss if my situation changed in the future.

I told my bosses pretty much as soon as we were engaged but only because I knew my wedding would be in the middle of the next football season and I needed to make sure it happened during an away game or bye week. Otherwise, I would have been working a college football game the day of my wedding. Also, we have a giant dry erase board calendar that we can write on up to a year in advance... so I did. That way my coworkers (all 3 of them including my boss! Lol) couldn't argue that they didn't know I was going to be gone.

I put my request in back in April when I started my job. Its kind of a special circumstance because I work in an accounting office and there is a PTO freeze from January- Tax Day (April 15). Of course the Wedding and HM was booked well before I started working here, so they understood - but not without their eyes bulging for a second!

(They knew when my wedding was when they interviewed me and hired me anyway)

My boss knows, and FH told his boss before accepting the new job (he wanted to be honest that he would need a lot of time off just a few months after coming on board).

We won't apply for official leave until about a month before. Of course, we are careful not to schedule any important projects or meetings close to the time of.

I will make the request on January 2 officially, but my boss knows the amount of time I want and my wedding date.

I put my request in January for 2.5 weeks off. My system doesn't allow before that but I did notify him before hand that I will be putting the time in.

My boss knew when my wedding was for about a year, but I don't think I settled on what specific days I was taking until about 2 months out.

I told my boss my date quickly after I knew. Just so she was aware I would be needing time off. We didn't really have a formal way to request PTO. I just put it on her calendar. I quit that job and started a new one in April and I told my new boss before I accepted the job.

I requested as soon as I had a solid date, so about 10 months in advance.

When I picked the date! My whole office is invited and we travel and do meetings, conventions planned years out. So made sure nothing was going on during that time.

My boss told me to put the request in at the first of the year. I only get 10 days off not including ANY holidays so I'm only taking 7 work days. Kinda sad it's not more but I want Christmas off next year.

This post reminded me to submit mine right now! My principal knows I'll be gone those days, because I talked to him about it at the end of this year, and reminded him this week (I have to miss some parent/teacher conference days so it's a bigger deal than normal).

We can only request off once the system resets for the year, which it did this week. Just put the official request in!

My boss has known for a while. My work does not allow you to request time off unless you have all the time "banked" I needed 128 hours for the honeymoon, I just put that request in and then used my 2 personal days for my wedding. Actually just put that request in. As I accrue more time I'll request more days off.

I m taking almost 2.5 weeks off between the couple of days before, 2 weeks for HM and 1 day off the week after we get back. So I requested it at about the 5 month mark.

I put it in as soon as we signed our venue contract, so it was about 8 months before. My boss *still* planned her vacation for the same week so I ended up having to work from home and handle conference calls the entire week before

My wedding is end of January and I'll probably put it in here in the next couple of months. I'm going to take a week off total.

I requested my dates a few months ago. Really it was just to get it on the calendar officially, for me. My bosses would have been fine with a few weeks heads up. I think it really depends on your place of employment. But, nothing wrong with being early.

I'm a teacher and told my principal when we set the date since it is during the school year. I can't officially put it in our system until 90 days prior
