How far in advance did you request the time off?

Melissa, on August 4, 2017 at 11:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 85

Just curious how far out did you notify your employers of the time off for your wedding/hm? A coworker looked at me like I was crazy the other day when she asked if I took it off yet and I said no. I have 7 1/2 months left. I work at a credit union and I got a promotion so I'm starting at a new branch on the 14th, so I wanted to wait to talk to my new boss about it anyways. But we all use Workday (one single online "portal" for hr/time off, etc for the whole company). So any request I make can be seen by any boss if my situation changed in the future.

I told people about 4-5 months before. my job is pretty flexible in terms of being able to take time off (no one has to cover for me or anything like that). my FH is a resident so he told people like a year out since his vacation time is really restricted.

I told my boss what days and time I'll need off. I was able to request this time off already.

I started at my current job in late October, so I let them know at the interview that I would need the time. I officially submitted my request in January.

My boss is pretty relaxed with when we take vacations, pending we don't have a major turnaround going on. I put on the calendar I would be out for the wedding/honeymoon this past March so everyone in my group was aware early on I would be out... and that was 7-8 months out.

I started at my new job July 12. They already know about my wedding and when it is. I plan on asking for my time in October. We only have to give a 30 days notice for when we need time off. I haven't decided on the amount of time I will take off because we don't know if we will go on our HM immediately after or wait a few weeks/months.

ETA: Just realized my wedding will conflict with end of month work. Shit. Oh wellSmiley smile

I requested the time last week for my wedding I leave for in a week. I get 35 days of leave a year and don't use most of it. We just have to check with other people in the office that we work with and make sure things are covered. The day we leave we write our names on a white board so people know we aren't in the office. One of the best Government jobs I have ever had.

We only have a couple people in the department and no one has to be a backup for me. I don't *really* need to worry much about not getting the time off. I gave my boss the PTO form 2 months out, and he handed it back to me telling me to give it to him the week before!

In my old dept of 6, PTO was requested by hand-writing your name on a calendar. I would have put my request on the new calendar as soon as it was hung on the wall.

I think it just depends on where you work and the likelihood PTO would be approved or denied.

I requested time off for the honeymoon about 6 months in advance, since i took almost a month off. I think I put the day before and after the wedding on the calendar at the same time too.

I already knew what time I would need so I went ahead and put it in back in January. I work for a small company and we have utilization goals that include use of vacation time (they plan our financials which affect our bonuses) so putting it in advance was helpful to myself and my company. I also knew that my work situation wasn't going to change.

I told my current job one year in advance, which definitely wasn't necessary but I wanted them put on notice because my wedding is in a time where they need as many people as possible here.

I was offered a new job over the phone by the director of HR in May. I let her know I would be gone for over two weeks for wedding and honeymoon. Didn't want to risk them telling me no later on. I'd tell them ASAP just to be safe.

My boss knew I was getting married and asked me like 9 months ago what time I wanted. At the time I wasn't sure but she told me to submit the most I'd want so it's in the calendar and nobody else takes the days off I need then if it changed she could adjust it. I asked for 3 weeks of and am SO glad I have that time.

My schedule is really flexible so I don't really request time off. Most people knew I was getting married and would be gone for a couple weeks. I didn't put it on my calendar until a couple weeks before. 7 1/2 months seems like plenty of time! H requested his time about 5 months ahead after we booked the honeymoon.

My boss knows that I'm getting married and I've got a leave request saved I just haven't submitted it. I have to talk to him about how far in advance he wants me to submit. Our leave year ends in January and I will be using the majority of my leave for this leave year. We have a trip to Disney scheduled for my son's birthday in December so I don't want to request almost three weeks off knowing I don't have the leave on the books to cover it.

I'm an attorney and we have court dates 1-2 times a month, and we find out the dates about 6 months in advanced. Once the dates for April come out I'll decide how much time I can reasonably take off around the wedding and request it then. I'll only be taking time to prep and recover from the wedding. We'll be delaying our honeymoon 'til the summer, when work is way slower.

I'm planning on putting my time off request in February 2018 that way I can bank some more vacation days. My unit is small and everyone knows when I'm getting married
