How Far Away is Your Venue?

mmbrake28, on May 17, 2017 at 4:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 66

I'm having SUCH a hard time nailing down a reception venue. I'll admit, I am probably being annoying picky. But I just don't LOVE any of the venues I've seen. A lot of them are super restrictive or the look of it is just bleh. I've only looked at venues that are about 10-15 miles from where we live (and about 5-10 miles from the church); however, I'm thinking of looking into neighboring cities. I don't live in a big city; however, I do live about 3 hours south from Chicago. And there are so many beautiful venues there; however, that would require all my guests to travel & we obviously couldn't have our ceremony at FH's childhood church (which is the one thing he has said means a lot to him - even though neither of us are overly religious. I think he's doing it more for his g-parents).

So, how far away is your venue from your house? (miles or travel time)

AND

Are you having the ceremony there too? If not, how far away is the reception venue from the church?

My venue for the wedding vs the reception are in different cities, about a 20 minute drive apart. I live about a 10-minute walk from the reception venue and about a 20-24 minute drive from the wedding venue

I never understand this question. Is your entire guest list located in a single town? We have people coming from all over for our wedding, so who cares if it's a couple hours from our house?

Our venue (both ceremony reception) is around 40-45 minutes from us. If we stuck to venues that were close by, we wouldn't have much to pick from.

We also don't have family/friends that live in the same town or close to each other really, so guests will be driving or traveling anyway.

ETA @sleepy yeah I don't get it either, I don't even have friends who live in the same town as their parents, let alone entire families and friend groups...maybe it's more of a rural thing? I live in NJ

@Sleepy - yes, the MAJORITY of both of our families and extended families live in the same city, or neighboring cities (20 miles). We have a few family members (aunts/uncles) that live in another state; however, the MAJORITY of our guest list lives in the same city as us.

We are inviting 150 people, and I would say 100 of those people live in the same city.

Ceremony and reception are in the same place about 15 mins away from our home. How much time do you have to find a venue? When is the wedding?

@TheeOne2Love - I'm trying to plan the wedding for late summer of 2018....so obviously I'm running out of time. And many venues are already booked up through August already. Most of the venues in my city are open for June/July/August (with the more popular ones already booked). But I know branching out into even larger cities will push us back even more, which I guess I'm okay with. I want a summer or early fall wedding, and not a winter wedding at all. So I'd rather push it back to summer 2019 than settle for winter 2018, if that makes sense lol

We had everything in one place and our venue was about a 15 minute drive from our house. It made planning meetings a lot easier since we didnt have to travel a long distance after work.

Just frustrated because I'm running out of time and I don't LOVE anything. I don't know if it's just me being overly picky or if I just need to branch out because these venues truly are not that great.

Our venue is about 45 minutes from where we live (and a big chunk of guests). so it's not too terrible of a drive. Our ceremony and reception are in one place though.

I think the biggest thing is that the reception isn't too far from the ceremony site. I'd say they should be no more than 30 minutes apart with normal traffic.

Ceremony site is my backyard (or church if it's raining/too cold) and the reception site is 20 minutes from that.

My Venue is at the same place as ceremony and since it's outside of a resort, it's also where we will be staying

1.2 miles from our apartment for the ceremony, and the reception is .6 miles from there, on the way back.

Me venue is about 2 hours from our house. In the San Francisco Bay Area it's not a big deal. All of the weddings I've been to were out of the area. Reception and ceremony will be at the same location. We sent STD out in October and majority of our guests have had hotel rooms booked since they received the STD.

We got married in my childhood church, which was about a 40 minute drive from the reception venue. It's a fairly rural area and I hated the idea of a ballroom, so our reception venue was really the closest we could do. The hotel was less than five minutes from the reception though (and we provided shuttle service). DH and I love about an hour and a half from both the church and the reception venue
