How Far Away is Your Venue?

I'm having SUCH a hard time nailing down a reception venue. I'll admit, I am probably being annoying picky. But I just don't LOVE any of the venues I've seen. A lot of them are super restrictive or the look of it is just bleh. I've only looked at venues that are about 10-15 miles from where we live...

I'm having SUCH a hard time nailing down a reception venue. I'll admit, I am probably being annoying picky. But I just don't LOVE any of the venues I've seen. A lot of them are super restrictive or the look of it is just bleh. I've only looked at venues that are about 10-15 miles from where we live (and about 5-10 miles from the church); however, I'm thinking of looking into neighboring cities. I don't live in a big city; however, I do live about 3 hours south from Chicago. And there are so many beautiful venues there; however, that would require all my guests to travel & we obviously couldn't have our ceremony at FH's childhood church (which is the one thing he has said means a lot to him - even though neither of us are overly religious. I think he's doing it more for his g-parents).

So, how far away is your venue from your house? (miles or travel time)

AND

Are you having the ceremony there too? If not, how far away is the reception venue from the church?

Ceremony and reception are in the same place, about 5 miles from our house. I adore our venue, but if I had to choose I would go with convenience over vision.

My venue and church are less than five minutes from my house . From church to venue it will take my guest less than ten minutes.

I'm getting married on a boat in Florida (I live in Tennessee) then I'm having the reception back in Tennessee 1.5 weeks later so people who couldn't travel could at least come to the reception.

My venue is 20 mins max from my house. The venue is where both the ceremony & reception will be held.

About 30 minutes from our house. The ceremony will be there too. We don't mind this distance at all. For work we travel much further - I'm an hour away from my job and FH is an hour and 20. A half hour to the venue is close for us!

That's shocking!! Very cool that everyone lives in the same area. What are the chances? Everyone I know scattered for jobs or just to get out of the area. I left home as soon as I possibly could. I wanted to leave CA but FH has kids so it'll have to wait a while.

I would try to stay somewhat close as it sounds like your group doesn't like to venture far.

Our wedding is 6 hours away from where we live and the guests are pretty even as far as if it's a "destination" or local for them.

As far as ceremony/reception, the church is 15 minutes away from the reception hall.

The church is approximately a half hour from us. The reception is roughly 25 minutes from the church. I agonized for a while about trying to find a venue that was within a shorter distance, like 10 or 15 minutes but there wasn't anything worthwhile. We are not inviting anyone who would have to travel, except for 2 people. The rest of the guests are within reasonable driving distance.

@OP I was the same way I couldn't find anything i LOVED. I live in Orlando, FL and both FH and I wanted to stay far far away from the touristy areas and didn't want a barn. We looked at beaches but it was still not what we loved. We couldn't find anything. We expanded our search and found an aquarium in Tampa (3.5 -4 hours away) and a beautiful venue in Mt. Dora (1 hour away) We decided to do the venue 1 hour away from most (some will be 2 hours) but it's so worth it!

Our venue (ceremony and reception) is about 45 mins from home.

But if my fiancé asked for his childhood church, I would let him have that and compromise on a reception venue.

Our ceremony venue is 30-40 mins from our home, and our reception venue is about 30 minutes away from the ceremony (about 20-25 from our home).

My venue is our home- I moved it here from a barn venue because of the drive and the restrictions (limit time guests could stay- parking was less than desirable and it was in a fairly busy (for Maine) road--- we live in the country with a large property- not sure why I didn't plan it right from the start at home!

My venue is about 45 minutes from my home, roughly 25-30 miles? We're having both ceremony and reception there though, so we don't have to worry about people making it to this place from any church/etc after our ceremony. This venue was one of the very few around that wouldn't make me use their catering services, and it's also been my dream venue for 15+ years. Absolutely worth the trip for me, and the cost. And I live further away and 90% of my guest list so, it's not so hard on them.

When we booked the venue, we were only not even 10 minutes away. Now we're about 45 minutes away.

30 minutes on the dot from where we live, but the city FHs family is all from and where he grew up. My family will basically travel any distance, his kinda wouldn't. (Eye roll)

Ours is about 45 minutes from our home. Both venue and ceremony location are in the same place.
