How Early Do The Bridesmaids Need To Order Their Dresses??

Amanda, on October 2, 2012 at 1:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 33

We are getting married June 28, 2013. We are getting the Bridesmaids dresses from David's Bridal and I have had three different associates tell me different answers. One said they need to be ordered by the end of September, the second one said October and another one said November but my friend (and bridesmaid) is saying January. Is January too late or would that be a safe bet?

I may getting married May 2013 and using DB for bridesmaid dresses. I ordered mine labor day weekend. I have only gotten one of five so far. Three are still on order and one is in transit. Personally I would rather be safe than sorry so if you know what you want I would go ahead and order them (unless someone is pregnant, then maybe let them wait).

I'm also May 2013 so I told my girls by December at the latest, although we just found their dress so it might get ordered within the next month. January gives you 5 months so it should be fine, but extra time is always nice.

We are also may 2013. Two of my bridesmaids already have their dresses and I am taking two more on Saturday to figure out their sizes. This is actually a good reminder that I need to call my moh to get her size. I am just waiting for David's bridal to have another free shipping promotion.

I'm getting married June 29, 2013 and I already bought my girls their dresses. None of them have tried them on and won't until January most likely. I got them from target so hopefully no alterations will be needed.

My wedding is July 6, 2013. I just finalized the girls' choices with the bridal salon and set an order deadline for December 31, 2012. The bridal salon said that is absolutely enough time. The designer I'm using (Bill Levkoff) takes about 4-5 months to arrive. So I think you could probably go to the end of the year and be okay, but it also depends on the designer.

There is no way you need to order that fast for David's Bridal bridesmaid dresses. I wouldn't put it off too long, just in case it did take a while for a particular dress to come in and you don't want bridesmaids procrastinating on ordering and causing you stress, however January should be more than fine.

I ordered my bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal for my brother's wedding in January for their September wedding. They quoted 2-3 months (I forget exactly, but still plenty of time for the September wedding) for it to come in, despite the sales consultant acting like it was life or death for us to order soon, which I believe comes from their sales commission attitude. They want to be the ones to get the sale in their name. They don't want you waiting and having it go to someone else. Well after all that, my dress came in in 1 WEEK.

I had the same experience as Mrs. O-When m MOH was married in June 2011, the salesgirl basically scared my friend to death telling her that ordering our dresses in Sept 2010 wasn't going to give us enough time. So orders were placed the 2nd week of September, and the first week of October we were hauling butt back to DB to pick up our dresses. All 10 of them, and our shoes. I'm not saying this is always going to happen- but don't feel pressured to order your dresses that quickly from DB.

I agree, most dresses will not take as much time as they say to come in but it's always better to have more time than not enough! I had a rough experience as a bridesmaid where the bride didn't decide on a BM dress until so late that we had to pay rush order. That's $50 EXTRA, for nothing... When you add that and $50 shipping on a $130 dress, a reasonable dress price turns RIDICULOUS. Make sure you give them enough time Smiley smile I'm getting married at the end of March and we are SO close to finding the right dress I can taste it Smiley winking haha, I want to make sure they have plenty of time.

Exactly Jaletia... I hate when vendors come in and offer nothing to the conversation only to advertise themselves. Hopefully others flag the post.

I've always heard 4-6 months. If DB is telling you different times, they are trying to make a sale. I was told by 4 places, for my May wedding, I need to order by January 25. So I think you have until at least January. Plus, other places sell off the racks and it is much quicker. DB is notorious for telling you huge lead times just in case... my friend was told 6 months for her wedding dress- it came in 2 months later...

    Flagged.

and any who I just decided on which dress so I am asking my girls to please order their dresses by month's end. They will have them in plenty of time to spare. I know some are looking to diet a bit more but hopefully not too many dress sizes type thing lol. Thankfully if they do the dress is not super expensive I am sure they could try to exchange to a smaller size if needed.

Oops forgot my date is hidden, I am May 4th bride lol

I was one of those annoying brides who put off ordering the dresses. I Just could not wrap my mind around the fact that it takes about 3-4 months for a dress to come in!!! Well....learn from my mistake because I was WRONG!!!! I waited too long and then ended up having to go out a find another dress. Oh I could have paid the rush fee which is an additional $40/ dress but I was going to pay that, I couldn't in good conscience ask my girls to pay for my mistake. That was the biggest pain in the world. My new motto: "Better too early and be safe than to be stressed and unhappy!" Good luck!

I think I remember my MOH's dress coming in 3 months after ordered - but we had a February wedding.

I don't think January is too late of a date - but keep in mind that May is the beginning of wedding season and a lot of orders will be coming through - plus, you want to leave room for alterations [:

Here's the thing -- it all depends. Even at David's, if you're ordering a dress in a cut to order color, it can take up to 18 weeks (that's the absolute longest)...and if you wait until January, which is the busiest time of the year, lead times can change. They also have a habit of discontinuing everyone's favorite dress the week before you're set to order it. So my advice is if you've gotten everyone to agree on a dress, you've picked the color, and people are happy with the price, order them!

If you're a bit more laid back about the color and style (and the issue is $&dollarSmiley winking, you can probably wait til Feb/March!
