How does a $100 floral centerpiece looks like?

Giselle, on October 30, 2012 at 7:25 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

I went to an appointment with a prospective florist and she said that for my flower budget I will be able to get $100 centerpieces. I have no idea what that means! I would really appreciate if you ladies bring some perspective, for centerpieces and prices, if you have pictures even better. I already search for previous posts regarding this but couldn’t find much. Please note: DIY and fake flowers are a NO.

Thanks! :-)

It depends on your flower choices. Your area is pretty middle of the road cost wise. It really depends on who you go with and what you chose. Have her mock up something for you.

Did you give her any idea of what you wanted? Or how many tables do you have to fill? Or did you just say something like, I have $5000 to spend, and she said OK, you can get 1 bridal bouquet, X number BM's bouquets, X number boutineers, X amount of ceremony decoration and X number centerpieces for $100 each.

$100 centerpieces should be able to look close to however you want them. Maybe long and low if you have rectangular tables. Or tall and skinny (kinda like Amy B's) if you have circular tables. Maybe sprinkle each table with 2 or 4 small individual pieces.

How the $100 stretches is going to depend on what type of flowers you want... how many flowers vs greenery you want in each item.... how much hardware is needed for each centerpiece.... etc etc etc..

Um why did she not show you anything? I'm confused that a florist would say you can do a $100/each centerpiece but not show you what that can be. I mean you could have figured that out!

This describes about half my centerpeices. Yellow instead of that orange color flower, white river rock at the bottom. Five votive candles will be around it as well. About $90/table

Here's the other half of my centerpeices. Again, the flower will be yellow. Flowers will be submerged in water, with a floating candle on top. Five votive candles around it. $100/table for this one.

Thank you very much for the input! These centerpieces are beautiful. Smiley smile

Well, I showed her some pictures of things I liked online. I really like peonies but I am open to combinations of other flowers too. And yes, I want low and high. It is very confusing, my planner says the price is good but I don really feel comfortable saying yes or signing a contract without seeing what I'm buying. And she charges for muck-ups, but Ill guess Ill have to do it if I decide to go with her. Still waiting on two more quotes.

I would go elsewhere if she wont show you any mock-ups. that is unprofessional to me- i mean you're paying her a ton of money and she can't create one setting so you know what you're buying? Did she say you will see on your wedding day? I dont get how that works...

Just some advice. Before you rent centerpieces take some ideas of what you like and see if you can make them for cheaper. I don't know if you are a big DIY-er. I would have paid $50-$75 for the centerpieces that I like, but with coupons and discount stores I am going to be able to make them for around $20-$25. Just a thought. Smiley smile

No way i would ever sign a contact without seeing a mock up..and if she charges for a mockup then i would look elsewhere..does she have books or pics with some of the flowers you like to even look at?

As a prior-florist, the mark up on some of these flowers are just ridiculous. Its better to do it yourself and try to buy wholesale or get the flower shop to give you a discount.

The first arrangement could probably be easily made for about $50. Its just all about time and willingness to put in the work.

These are mine and I am providing the vase $1.00 and the ribbon $1.00 each. She is providing the lines, flowers, table number frames and some votive for $45.00 a table. I have 30 tables so I really needed to keep them small. Plus I didn't want to crowd them and they are tables of 6 and 8. my wedding is mother's day weekend so flowers are $$$$

Keep looking! My florist has been great at giving me money saving tips. We wanted small centerpieces and she found some fantastic ribbon that she is going to use to wrap the bouquets like a gift--it does double duty--its really pretty and you use less flowers!

Prices vary across the country but this is a recent centerpiece that was $100.

Most florists don't do mock-ups, unless you pay for it. It costs labor time, and the cost of the materials.

A $50-75 centerpiece is pretty average, usually with no premium flowers. Adam gave you a great example. A low design at that price would be very full, as well, and with some premium flowers (like peonies), or some dendrobium orchids like Adam showed. Nice work, Adam, I wish I was in Boston!!

Did you give the florist an idea of the types of flowers/colors that you wanted for your centerpieces? When we met with florists, we showed them several inspiration pictures. Then, the florists told us a few price ranges, depending on the size of arrangement that we wanted. We spent about $100/centerpiece in the greater NYC area. We had white hydrangea, green hydrangea, roses, spray roses, and sedum. We wanted to keep our centerpieces low, so as not to inhibit conversation. Here are a few pictures of our centerpieces:

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's a red flag that your florist charges for a mock-up. I think that it is actually fairly common, given that your florist would be incurring materials and labor expenses.
