How do you keep fake flowers down in a clear glass vase filled with water?

THe one florist I talked to said about using really thin wire to anchor them.

@ Tami - I like that idea. Let me see if I can find a pretty rock at Michaels.

@ Jessicka - Thanks! I've thought about that...but then would I super glue them to the bottom of the vase. Hmmmm, that is a thought.

How did they get those flowers to stay down? =(

O boy. Did I try everything! I really really didn't want rocks- but it sure is the easiest if you don't mind them. Some flowers/fake flowers will sink on their own, and if you can do floating candles on top that can help keep them down.

What we tried that didn't work-

Silicone glue (aquarium glue)

Hot glue

small weights

clear water beads

What did work- shoving lead fishing weight tubing i guess is what you would call it

Instead of just water use water beads - you layer some in the vase, position your flower(s) where you want, and add more water beads. Last step is to then pour water in the vase covering the water beads which then disappear so it looks like your flowers are floating in water. I did this and it works beautifully!

Here's a pic of one I did as a test but I also did it with single flowers and it worked just as well. The trick is in layering the water beads.

@ shellie - Thanks. It looks like that worked perfect for your flowers, but I have bought a bunch of orchids (fake). I wouldn't know where to put the weight?

@ Linda - Okay, that sounds like a good thought. Is that something I can get at Michaels...about how much are water beads?

How about those clear glass stones you can get at the dollar store? Hot glue a clump at the bottom of the flowers drop in vase and then fill in with a bit more stones at the bottom to anchor them and cover the "clump" you glued.

Fill your vases will clear gelatin (unflavored clear jello) and let it start to set up, push your flowers into it, and then let it set the rest of the way!

You can get the packets of crystals or the already hydrated water beads at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They also come in colors if you want to layer the bottom with a color and the rest clear.

Of course Rebecca! Anytime I'm full of random knowledge such as this. haha

For the lead weights, you could always glue (not Elmers or kids glue, but hot glue) the weights to the flowers.
