How do I say this without sounding cheap? :)

We are having a beach wedding with outdoor reception. I know some people think using plastic at a wedding is horrendous. But with our laid back and casual feel I think it will be fine. What I'm trying to figure out is how to get people to reuse their wine glasses. We're getting plastic ones (but they are nice....not the kind where the bottom comes off). *Is* that cheap?! lol We will have 2 bars set up and all wine, beer and liquor will come from there (ie. no wine bottles sitting on tables). Is it tacky to ask people to use the same wine glass? If I was a guest, I don't think I would really care. I was thinking of putting using a small chalkboard at the bar with a catchy little phrase. Thoughts? Opinions? Help on figuring out how to say it? TIA

Really?! Ugh! Wonder if I could prime it first. Can't believe I'm thinking of doing all of this! Oooohhh...maybe I could just get beachy colored sharpies and people can write their names with those either on the base or the top portion.

I saw that you have to prime first in order to paint on plastic. I would be careful though with plastic wine glasses. I hope it all works out for you.

Lala...With my crowd, it could happen as well.

I think the charms and Kimberly's saying is the best way to go.

The only thing with the charms is do you think I'm really going to be able to find 75-ish different charms?!

No. I don't. Not for a reasonable price. They are pretty pricey. You have the chalkboard paint, buy a couple glasses, and try it out.. if it doesn't work, then move on.. if it does, you have a cheap solution!! Smiley smile

Besides, I would never remember what charm was mine.

If you are up for taking on a DIY, you can purchase the supplies from Oriental trading and make them. That way you can make as many variations as you like.

I think it is a great idea! Smiley smile I don't see it as being tacky or anything. You could use smartyhadaparty.com to get the glasses you need Smiley smile

Or you can go with this one and make name tag charms. Guests can write their name on the tag.

You can also check out ebay. The charms for my place cards were ridiculously inexpensive. You can attach them with wire or bows. I used the wire that comes with the bowacadabra bow maker.

Marie found handcuff charms so I am sure if you start to search on Ebay you can come up with something. Why not starfish or shells?

I think just a cute little sign at the bar would work. i've never needed a name tag on my glass to keep it haha.

I love the way Kimberly worded it but if you wanted to try something else you could make it a "go green" thing instead. Then they wouldn't have any clue that you were only able to buy so many.

I suggest find a way to label/tag them, that way its cute and personal - and folks will already know without having to tell them, 'that is your glass for the evening' =D

I think if you just got colorful sharpies it would make your life easier and work just fine.

True, colorful sharpies could work too... without the hassel of chalkboard.

Ok......so the wine name tag charms are super cute however, CKJL is right. They would get pretty expensvie. Even using the ones from Oriental Trading Company it would cost about $50. For that, I could just get more glasses. So I tried the chalkboard paint without primer first. Worked perfectly! It has been done for 2 days, written on a few times and it's still holding up. No flaking at all! Woo Hoo! AND a friend said this would be the perfect project for her so she's painting them all! Thanks for the great ideas everyone!!!
