How did you make your wedding photo books? Any tips?

The Sealpups, on December 11, 2019 at 4:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 16

I have already made books from Shutterfly (all 8x11):

1. Photobook of all our photobooth pictures

2. Photobook of all our guest pictures (we took pics with some guests during cocktail hour)

3. Highlight books for our parents

I was looking into artifact uprising for their "everyday" books to do coffee table highlight books. We had almost 2,000 pictures and in an effort to spread them out, I was thinking of putting the "2nd best" shots in those books.

For our main wedding book, what size would you suggest doing? I read that 12x12 is best because it adapts well with horizontal and vertical pictures. I'm hesitant with the rectangle-shaped sizes bc they remind me of yearbooks. Any suggestions?

For our wedding album - I was thinking of doing either one of these:

- mpix (they have the layflat option)

- printique (layflat option and good color)

I won't be doing shutterfly. I like the linen/fabric covers with gold engraving. Shutterfly has this leather bound book I'm not too fond of (they only have it available in black). Also, artifact uprising is WAY too expensive for such a minimal wedding book. Any other recommendations?

Would love to follow this discussion because I have not made mine yet and am not sure where to go to get good quality.

Agreed, me too. I haven't even thought about this yet - post wedding needs. I should put this on my list of to dos cause it would make a lovely gift to our parents too.

I used Mixbook for my parents albums. I got the lay flat photo option with lustre paper which is the most expensive paper option they have because I wanted good quality. I got 11 x 8 books. The only cover option was hardcover. I included a photo on the front. I got them when they were on sale for 55% off for Black Friday. I am thinking of using Shutterfly for my wedding album because I really want a flush mount album with an acrylic cover that I can include digital stickers in. Shutterfly is the only place I have been able to find that offers the flush mount albums that I can use digital stickers in. I am currently trying to determine if I want to include non-professional photos because I am worried they won't turn out well. You said that you ordered books from Shutterfly with non-professional photos did they turn out okay?

I ordered Shutterfly with professional photos - engagement pictures and wedding pictures. The quality is very nice. We had a lot of natural light and it came through perfectly. I prefer thicker paper for our own wedding album. We just used Shutterfly for our guest book, photo book pic compilation, and wedding highlight photo books for our parents

I used printique (actually used them before they were called printique) but I loved the quality and the album I chose I could completely customize the sizes of the pictures. So when I used the non pro pictures I made them smaller, so they still appeared relatively clear. Then the larger pictures I only used the pro pictures. I also made a book for our parents. Ours was 12x12 and our parents were 10x10 and 8x8. Each book was beautiful!

Thanks for our advice! They were another place I was looking at, but I didn't know how the non-professional photos would turn out. I loved Mixbook, but they don't offer everything I want.

Here’s an example of how the non pro pictures look. For reference the left picture is about 2 1/2-3in by about 2in. And the right picture is at least 3 1/2 in tall.

Yes - they were all professional. I’m so curious to what size books people will recommend!

I got 11 x 8 and I am very happy with that size. I didn't like the square ones.

Needing some opinions Smiley smile if you have time. As I mentioned, I'm going to make a highlights book aka the coffee table books. I'm having SUCH a hard time with this! Our photographer was great and gave us almost 2,000 pictures! I didn't want to be redundant with adding shots for both books. I was thinking - we took group shots of the bridesmaids and groomsmen:

    1. funny one where they're reacting to us kiss

    2. posed, formal shot

which one should I put in the highlights book? and which to put in the wedding album?
