How did you choose your bridesmaids?

Beth, on June 25, 2014 at 9:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

Did you choose them based on their looks for your photos (i have heard of people who have done this)? Or did you choose them because they are dependable reliable supportive friends in you life?

Choose them based on how dependable they are. How available will they be for help with planning? Do they have the financial resources to buy a dress/makeup/shoes? And just generally how close they are. From personal experience, the first two are most important, unfortunately.

I think I'll limit it to family only. Friends come in and out of your life.

I chose mine based on our relationship and who I felt would not only be there for me through the planning process and the big day, but who would be there for me 2, 5, 10+ years from now. My MOH has been my friend since we were 3 & 6 months old, so that was a no brainer. Then my 6 girls have been close friends between 4 and 12 years. I had a few girls who were hurt that I didn't ask them but I know that I made the right choice. I could call any of my girls at 3am and they would come to my rescue for any reason, I'm blessed to have such great friends who are more like sisters.

I couldn't imagine choosing BM's off of looks in photos! My BM's range from a size 6 t a 26! And I wouldn't change one of them for a size 2 any day!!

I chose two because they're sisters (one is mine and will be my MOH, the other is FH's sister who will be almost 17 by the time of the wedding). The other two girls I've known 12 and 13 years and we were all super close through middle school and high school and kept in great contact over the years. And they all look great in photos so I didn't need to worry about that (not that it'd matter). I also have two greeters that I really wanted as bridesmaids but wanted our sides to be equal, they'll be just as involved though (they're still walking down the aisle, they just get corsages instead of bouquets).

Except one is really testing how much I love her. She is mormon which makes it so that she has certain clothing requirements that are nearly impossible to find (and also find other dresses in the same color for the other girls). Plus she has never been to a non-mormon wedding which is very stressful because she doesn't understand how most weddings work. And she sees weddings as just a big party and kind of pointless. Also she's having a baby and I don't want her bringing her baby to our wedding because I don't want it to start screaming during our vows. So yeah, if I did it all over again, I think I'd keep it to just the two sisters.

My MOH is my best friend of 13 years and I was her MOH 2 years ago. We have been through it all and are like sisters. One of my bridesmaids is a best friend of 12 years and I was a BM in her wedding 4 years ago. Another BM is my best friend and roommate from college and we have traveled the world together. Trust me, if you can travel to places together where you don't know the language and it can be stressful (and magical) figuring things out such as airports, public transportation, etc, and still love each other, you have a real keeper!! I don't see any of these ladies near as much as I wish (2 live 2 hrs away), but we ALWAYS pick up right where we left off and we are always on each other's side.

My other 2 BM's are my SILs. FG is my niece.

Best man is FH's brother and GMs are FH's best friend and my three brothers.

*anyone who chooses their wedding party based on looks is a horrible human being and should slap themselves!!

My moh of is my best friend since high school and we're like sisters we're so close. And the other two are my nieces, i was their age and a bm at one point and i just thought it was so cool, i wanted to include them in the wedding because they're my nieces and there's not many people in my family who are getting married anytime soon.

I chose the least annoying/most skinny of all my friends...and my sister. I couldn't have a fat girl in my wedding party because the dress I wanted doesn't go above a size 8.

Kidding! I feel like this question is set up to point out bad people. Why would anyone answer this honestly if they really did chose their BM for looks?

    1) who makes me smile just by walking in the door

    2) who has seen me at my worst

    3) who has seen me naked and doesn't care

    4) who would remain my best friends into my marriage

If you think any of your friends are so unattractive that they wouldn't look stunning in your wedding, you need a serious reality check.

To answer the question, I am only having one person stand by my side. We've been best friends since middle school. She was in the delivery room when my kids were born, she stood by me through a divorce, I was her MOH and I also was in the room when her child was born. Who else would I pick? She will be there in her full glory, septum ring and all her glorious tattoos will make my day BEAUTIFUL.

Well, my MOH i have none sincebirth, two cousins, I chose a friend who i have been friends with since 1st grade, two friends since middle school, one friend from high school, one friend from college, & my two future sister in laws.

yes that is 10, and they each hold very dead to me

but even with that said, there has just began drama, idk what it is about weddings, but even the best of friends fall into the wedding drama...

it sucks.. but i know in my heart i chose who i wanted..

My nearest and dearest. ItsGoodToBeKing listed great points above.

Mine are my Sisiter, Stepsister, Cousin (who is as close to me as my sisters), and Bestie from WAY back - been through it all - These women rock my world and couldn't imagine anyone else with me for this.

I picked my older sister to be my MOH because we have been best friends since I was born. Having her stand by me at my wedding is something that has never been a question.

My younger sister because I love her and also have a really close relationship with her.

I'm considering having my oldest sister too because everybody says its wrong to pick the other two and exclude her.

My college roommate because she has seen FH and my relationship through its entire course and has stood by me through everything. Even if we lose contact after the wedding I know that it would still make me smile to see her in my photos.

My high school friend because we have a very special relationship and she has been the one of the most genuinely excited people regarding my engagement.

I had four ladies that were in my bridal party. I had a Matron of Honor, a Maid of Honor, and two Bridesmaids.

    1) Matron of Honor- I chose her because she is close to my heart, and has been for over 10 years. She is like an older sister I never had.

    2) Maid of Honor- I chose her because she is my youngest sister, whom I very close with. We are nearly 8 years apart, but it's like we're twins.

    3) Bridesmaid #1- I chose her because she is my younger sister. I am not as close to her as I am with my Maid of Honor, but she's still my sister, and I have love for her. I always pictured having my sisters in my wedding. They were both thrilled to be in it.

    4) Bridesmaid #2- She is my SIL. She is such calm and sweet person. It's just her and my husband, they have no other siblings. I knew how much she wanted to be apart of our wedding.

All of my girls were reliable and supportive. I'm glad I chose them.

4 ladies--three of whom are family and the other I have known since we both were less than a year old. I didn't want to ask anyone I didn't think would still be a good friend 30 years down the road.

My MOH is someone that I've known since I was six and she was nine. She was my "big buddy" and I was her "little buddy" in school. She taught me how to read, was my Confirmation sponsor, has always been that person that guides me and helps me with anything I have troubles with. She's insanely amazing, and someone I am so blessed to have because she supports me in whatever I do in life with no negativity.

My bridesmaids consist of my sister, my cousin whose son I am Godmother to, my best friend, and my FH's sisters. All of them, minus one FSIL (whoops!) have always been incredible to me and really there.

Lucky to have myself a good group of girls!
