How Cold is Too Cold?

Sarah D., on March 19, 2013 at 10:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

I have seen the: How hot is too hot posts before, but not one for colder weather.

We are 5 days out and I'm obsessing over the forcast for my outdoor ceremony.

We knew, and our guests knew that weather is typically in the 50's at this time of the year. Our outdoor ceremony, with processional and everything included is about 45 mins.

We are expecting a little colder weather this weekend. The forcast everywhere are different, so we are going to make the official call on Friday (wedding is Sunday).

My question is: When is it too cold? I know everyone has different thoughts on this, but I'm looking for some opinions.

For me, the 50 degrees outside for 45 minutes would e too cold. but then again, I hate being chillie or cold.

I would say if you need gloves, scarves, hats and maybe a blankie...it's probably too cold for an outside wedding. Smiley smile

Crossing my fingers for a warm front for you!

I'm the worst judge for weather... Yesterday was 49 degrees out here and I was out and about in shorts and a t-shirt.. and was still hot...

Anything less than 70 is too cold for me to linger outside - which sucks - I live in PA.

Everybody's body temperature is different, but for me, anything below 50 degrees is too cold.

50 I think would be too cold as people will be sitting and not moving around for 45 minutes. 50 is beautiful if you are out for a hike but not so much for sitting. I think if it got up to about 60 (and sunshine) you'd be good.

Anything under 60 is too cold for me to sit in. Add a little wind, and I wouldn't be able to make it for well over an hour - count on the fact that most people come to a wedding earlier than the start time, and that most weddings do start late.

I'm comfortable anything above 50, but I also HATE HATE HATE hot weather, so I would much rather be outside at 50 degrees than 80 degrees.

I would say its a bit chilly for a 45 minute cermoney but you could always add little lap blankets for the cermoney and warn people of the weather and to dress accordingly

I'm in OK where it is over 100 degrees for about 5-6 months of the year so after sitting outside for many a wedding where we are sweating our butts off, getting dehydrated and wanting to die (a little dramatic but you get what I'm saying)...I'd say in the 50's degrees is fine. Your guests can step outside and realize if they need a coat, scarf, etc.

    But that's just my opinion...

At this time of year 50 degrees is almost a heat wave here. Last year it was 70 I think and that is too hot for us. I am also in MA so we go from super cold to summer - someone joked and said there's 2 seasons in new england winter and july lol Depending on your area as long as there isn't a ton of wind and you have a good amount of sun you should be ok. Then again we just got hit with snow and freezing rain so I'd be thrilled if it was 50 out right now. As long as people know its an outdoor ceremony they should know to bring a jacket

Well, I'm from a Caribbean island and live in Florida -- anything under 80 is cold to me. Smiley smile

I'd say the 60s is probably where I could sufficiently deal with the cold. Would your ceremony be in the sun? Can they put out space heaters?

Man, what a conundrum. We got married in 80 degree weather in December and were thinking how comfortable we would have been if we had waited 3 more months...

Under 70 & I'm generally pretty uncomfortable. With that said, I live in Southern California & have been spoiled with mostly great weather yearround. Oh & I get cold super easy :/

Personally, I think you should ask only people that live in your area Smiley smile. Beyond individual personal differences, people who live in different regions are accustomed to different weather. Wish I could be more helpful but I really think what your guests are accustomed to weather wise is going to make a huge difference in this!
