HOT Beach Wedding!!

I'm having a beach wedding in August... ITS GOING TO BE HOT! My reception is inside but for the Beach Ceremony I will have personalized ice cold water and fans. Is there anything else I can do to make my guest feel more comfortable during my 30 minute ceremony?

Elizabeth I've been to an august wedding in S.C on the beach and it was fine, so stop being so nasty and pipe down. Regardless of how many people she invites it's her wedding.

Tarah, you'll be fine. Maybe some parasols for shade.

We will have our beach wedding in June so it won't be as hot, but still hot lol. Our ceremony shouldn't last longer than 15-20 minutes but we will have ice cold drinks for them on the way to their seats. It'll be hot but not scorching (especially if it's closer to sunset) the wind definitely helps

@ JDSquared. South Carolina isn't Florida. I don't understand how a beach wedding in S.C. is even remotely relevant to this post.

Nope. I can't even stand being outside in Minnesota in August so Florida would be a hard pass. The only way your getting you "dream wedding" is if your dream is to have all of your guest skip the ceremony and your bridal party to be completely miserable and complain.

Eta: No one here in Minnesota would have an outdoor wedding in January. So why would you ever think it's ok to plan to have an outdoor wedding in Florida or California or Arizona in August. The logic just baffles me.

Actually given the choice I would choose Minnesota in January every time over Florida in August.

I can't comprehend how our comments are "nasty" for literally pointing out that a summer beach wedding in Florida with no shade is putting yourselves and your guests at risk of being fucking miserable, sick, and possibly very very sick.

You can chant "it's your special day" and "your guests will love it" all you want but it doesn't change the fact that our comments aren't mean, they're factual.

It's not that far off a.magill. though I understand guests in account and all that it's important to keep them comfortable...I don't think that being on the beach after 5pm is going to be all that bad.

I have a medical condition that, given these wedding conditions, no parasol or heavily iced water is going to prevent me from passing out due to blood pooling in my legs, going asystole/asystolic (whatever form is grammatically correct) while unconscious, and then needing ambulance transport because of the risk of me going into cardiac arrest.

So, yeah, I don't care for the "it's YOUR day, they'll live through it!" BS because guess what? If I was there, or anyone with my condition is (and many go undiagnosed!), there's a chance they might not.

You're going to need a tent for shade, a helluva lotta fans, and a short ceremony that is close to the indoor, AC reception. As Celia said, a planned thirty minute ceremony is really forty-five once you factor in everything else.

Or do it later when it's somewhat cooler.

    Or do it inside.

I won't even GO to the beach in August (assuming you're in the south?). It gets up to 100 degrees, and you need a tent or some kind of shade. The sun on the beach in August is unbearable.

If that's not an option for you, I suggest doing the ceremony as late as you can without making your guests wait too long for dinner.

My women comment was not sexist I am aware men are on this site as well, however I have never seen a comment from a man put down others. Women sometimes just get petty and mean for no reason.

The comments are mean. She was called rude and selfish for having her wedding in August.

The heat in Florida and Arizona are very different. I grew up in Tennessee and vacationed in Florida. All I'm saying is guest will be fine for 30 mins. If they are adults they qwill dress accordingly. If they are kids their parents will dress them accordingly. Also, they have the option to not come if it's too hot for them.

Yeah, beach wedding in August in the hot FL sun sounds very unpleasant. No thanks.

@ JDSquared. After sunset it will still be in the mid to upper 80s and high humidity. Then you need to prepare to deal with mosquitoes. Torches, spray, zappers. The mosquitoes are absolute monsters down here.

The idea of it was called selfish. Not OP. Calling OP selfish would be against the CGs.

You can criticize the idea, not the person.

    Reading comprehension is fundamental.

@OP; I am having a beach wedding at the end of July. Our wedding planner told us to do it at sunset so it is not so hot. They recommend around 715-730pm

Ah okay. I'll take your word for it a.magill. OP, offer shade or consider moving inside, as pp's with experience have said. No need for you and guests to suffer with a thousand bug

bites just for a beach ceremony.

@ Lindsey O. I don't understand, you would be happy if people actually dresses appropriately?? because it would be swimsuits with cover ups, sun glasses, large hats and or umbrellas, sandals, thick sunscreen and taking frequent dips in the ocean to cool off.

Also, if you are having OOT guests or a DW, you are responsible for letting them know the hazards of the local environment. I would expect when invited to an event that I wouldn't have to research and prepare for my own safety from what my host is subjecting me to.

So you are telling me that you don't look at the weather of the destination before you go on vacation?
